If I had all the top minds and engineers from the gaming wold of 3d modelling to image and 3d vision for things like VR AR and 360 views and their computing horse power all working on optimizing the youtube video codec and rendering videos you would not find a fault wrong and even your 140p would have a reasonable crack at upscaling to 720p but the gaming industry would have no dynamite. As it stands you need good video, good graphics and reasonable emerging technologies relative to the year and expectations of the times but not excellent video or 3d graphics.
However there is another phonominom where the 3d codec gets more standard and closer to the video technology codec ect and the line blurs and all you end up with is one comprehensive AI media codec.
What this would mean is that you could also download games onto your tv and they would be a few MB's to a few GB's and all the media would use the same standard codec with extra features added by companies for their product range. you might get something like a m2 half sized slot on the back of your tv.
what really could nudge moving photos closer to 3d gaming in a one standard is that it's more optimal use of the top minds and engineers in the photonic age. the 3d codec needs to also eventually be extensible to the full array of modelling and simulation at any scale and in a way that can extend into the cloud and in a way useful for science and development.
