Histrionics in Prostitution

I've been reading this forum in-depth lately and I'm wondering if anyone has any information or anecdotes regarding the prevalence of HPDs in prostitution or other sex work. It would seem to be an ideal profession, given the nature of the relationship: attention is garnered from many men, the need to work one's charms on an individual is fulfilled and shallow relationships are maintained. (I'm speaking in terms of females, since both the majority of ...

I think I have HPD...

Well, I don't want to write a long essay, so I'll make this as brief as I can. I discovered this disorder today for the first time, which surprised me because I've been a psychology major for 2 years. Anyways, after reading the symptoms, I sat in humbled shock.

Here are some key points about me:

I remember as far back as 4 years old getting dramatically angry at little things. As an only child, ...

HPD hanging around like a bad smell...

Hi all

Will try and keep this short and sweet. In summary, I'm female and I had this female HPD friend for a number of years. Insert usual tales of crazy-making and public theatrics.

The culmination was when I got a boyfriend at which point little miss HPD went into overdrive - constantly attempting to monopolise his attention etc. I've never been the jealous type which I admittedly pride myself on, so I was a ...

Age-gap relationships?

It seems that many (practically all?) of the personal stories told here involve age gaps ... do HPDs often "pick" significantly older serious partners and then continue their fun and play with younger folks?

Is this because they're calmer? Less likely to react to slights? Or easier to control because of an eagerness to get involved with somebody young and exciting? Money? Patience?

Thoughts?

Any insight?

In my quest to find out what is wrong with my step son, I found this site. Yesterday I was watching a movie and the woman on it, although quite the sociopath was also diagnosed with histrionic personality disorder. The way they described it really hit "home".

My step son talks very "dramatically" or "theatrically", and it is not so much what he says as to how he says it. Printing the words here won't ...

Parental Marriage

I am interested in learning about HPDs and "parental" marriages.

The HPDs who I know who are in long-term relationships seem to have partnered with very stable, steady, care giving mates who try to appease and take care of the HPD emotionally and physically to the best of their abilities.

Basically, the partner devotes his whole life to the care of the HPD. Some HPDs seem satisfied with this arrangement, not cheating with "dating" partners ...

Periodic Breakdowns

Many HPDs have mentioned to me that they have "periodic breakdowns" or "breakdown times." I've asked if these breakdowns are panic attacks or if they are true psychotic breaks. Most of my HPDs respond "both!" :D

I have read where HPDs frequently have co-occurring Panic Disorder and General Anxiety Disorder. I am prone to believe that these "breakdowns" that seem so common among HPDs are more ...

an interesting argument

Below please find a long text which I'd saved, and came accross when looking at my files. It might have been posted at this forum or somewhere else. Since I like his observations I wanted to post it here (or again). If the author is here I'd appreciate if he'd acknowledge it. Although often repetitive, the text is very insightful.

This whole thing about people with HPD having empathy and feeling
geuine emotions is not, ...

I was taken for a ride too....

I can’t believe I finally found and understand the mysteries surrounding the girl I was seeing for the last year. After things finally blew up and I threw her out of my house I kept doing impulsive phrase searches on the Internet. The last one was “psycho chick” which got me looking at a page that had the phrase “attention seeking personality disorders” When I searched that … WHAMO! She was acutely histrionic! It has ...
