ive been given 5mg three times a day for mania,the side effects are scary is ther not a safer medicine?

Because i take psych medication, so speaking politically incorrect, i'm sort of 'crazy', not like the rest of the normal population

I told my therapists my two concerns with ANY type of medication for my disorder is sexual dysfunction and weight gain.

I see the psychiatrist tomorrow and my therapist suggested maybe i ask for Topamax. A mood stabilizer. i guess it helps with losing weight.

Anyone try it? does it help stabilize moods?

About three years ago when I had my first appointment with a psychiatrist, I was struggling really hard with college (my graduation was already long overdue by then) and all I wanted out of the psychiatrist was really just a prescription for Ritalin/methylphenidate. I was put on Risperidone (Risperdal)a couple of weeks ago, 1mg at night. One of the things I'm concerned with is weight gain as a side affect. It's quite possible with this drug. Is anyone taking it? If so how much and what if any side affects?

Hi everyone. The Clinical Psychologist who diagnosed me with Aspergers recommended that I get a script for Risperidone. He said that I can take a tablet whenever I feel stressed, aggressive or anxious and that it would quickly calm me down.

But the thing is, my other psychiatrists all said that it can't be taken incidentally, only long term.

Who is right? Whose advice should I follow?

I'm asking be cause, I feel really stupid, even though I'm doing better with medication.

May be it's my imagination, but I seem to suck at most things requiring brain power.

I suffer from PTSD. During the past few years I have been in intensive CBT therapy. I had severe anxiety, and stayed at home most of the time.
