What the -Hell- does -The Answer is Blowing in the Wind- mean to human beings with mental illness etc.? Many years ago when I first started to work at the mental health rehabilitation work facility in northern New Jersey USA, I was in the learning mode as to clients with mental illness and addictions and physical disabilities etc.. I had learned a lot from upper management in dealing with human beings with various problems until the day a counselor who I respected told me to -Stop- being kind to the clients as this was interfering with their program of recovery. Slowly this wall of professional behaviour started to be seen for what it was, self preservation of their jobs. Another time in the beginning a client who was a supposed -Kung Fu- expert or whatever started to act out in the court yard and the other clients ran from this guy with -Fear- on their faces. I quickly got everybody safely in the building and got a upper management staff member to help take care of this client, and for this action of protecting the clients I was reprimanded for not going through proper channels.
I could list dozens of examples of the wellfare of clients being second fiddle to the mental health bureaucratic system, how about clients allowed to stay outdoors in over 100 degree temperatures in the shade and over 150 degrees in the sun. When I asked the clients to -Please- come inside into the A/C I was told to stop harassing them, they could stay outside if that's what they wanted. How about clients that were starving and or hungry at the end of every month because they had used up all their money and were waiting for their monthly welfare checks. I was giving bags of grocery food out of the trunk of my car to help them at my own expense, I was told to stop helping them at the end of the month they would have to go hungry or budget their money to last the whole month.
How about their were sexual predators waiting outside our mental health facility waiting to pounce on any -Single- woman walking to the bus stop by herself, when I tried to organize women to only walk in pairs or groups to the bus stops etc.. I was told to stop because this would alarm the clients to how dangerous it was outside our mental health facility. Let's talk about allowing clients who were predators inside of our facility and were allowed to prey on innocent clients by borrowing money etc. etc. etc. from them and not paying it back etc. because they were protected by upper management. Some upper management had a -GOD- complex which meant that they could -Cure- any clients they deemed curable, numerous clients quit the program or had nervous breakdowns or committed -Suicide- because these predators were allowed at our mental health facility.
The answer is blowing in the wind which means that -You- will never see any good results come out of the mental health bureaucracy, because they only care about their jobs and if they -Cure- you they are out of a job....
