Coming off medication - any experiences?

I had a psychotic episode about 5 years ago and was diagnosed with Schizophrenia. I was then put on Resperidone which I've been on ever since.

I haven't heard any voices or had any hallucinations since my psychotic episode and my resperidone has been gradually reduced to 2mg per day. I'm now looking to come off it all together but am unsure what the best way to go about it is?

My psychiatrist dropped me ...

How long do antipsychotics remain in the system...

I'm curious about how long anti-psychotics stay in the body. I think that the thinking around it is that if you taper off your meds then they'll be out of the system in no time. I've posted about this before and I'll mention it again as soon as I go off my meds I get this intense feeling inside my brain. Before taking any meds I never experienced this. I'm having a hard time distinguishing ...

Is it really worth it?

I've been taking anti-psychotics for 2 weeks now. I'm on 200mg seroqual per day. My biggest annoyance is the voices. It's worked a bit but it feels like the side-effects are out-weighing the positive effects. The voices are still their but its weird because I only ever hear them in public and rarly when i'm by myself. I think it's just that I'm senstive to what other people think about me. Maybe I should take ...

SZ's can't filter out the BS

I think my problem and maybe other schizophrenics is that they can't filter out all the bulls#%!. I'm like ultra sensitive all sorts of nonsense. Just like anything, for example a crow squaking and then over anylisising it and thinking how it relates to Native Indian culture and then going off on some weird trip. Or anything it's like I look at something from so many angles. In a way its like I want to ...

People conspiring behind your back...

This is kinda strange for me to experience and quite confusing. I feel like people are conspiring behind my back. Talking about things like he's a little off, kuu-kuu, crazy, maybe his schizophrenic. I don't actually hear these things but I feel it in their vibe and attitude. Sometimes it's more obvious like they whistle at me or point their finger at their temple (like I'm crazy). I guess in a way their showing enough ...

Whats the best antipsychotic for auditory hallucinations?

From your expreinece or knowledge which anti-psychotic best treats auditory hallucinations? This is my main problem. I'm currently on seroqual and can say that it's reduced them but their still their. Since seroqual is more popular for treating bi-polar then schizo and voices are more of a schizo symptom I'm wondering if theirs a better med?

Help needed for my little brother

I was hoping to get some help from you guys in order to work out what is wrong with my brother. He is going to see a psychiatrist soon (if we can get him there).

He talks about whispers telling him things and often makes totally irrelevant comments in the middle of a conversation that have nothing to do with what we are talking about. He is very paranoid and seems to think everyone is ...

Maybe us schizophrenic people use more of our brain

maybe we use more of our brain than the average person..that could be why we go through things like seeing and hearing, paranoia, etc...has anybody else ever thought about this?

Threads being locked by pompous moderators

Hi all,
I object to the "Hello I am a psychiatrist" thread being closed by the moderator Sadgurl. The reasons she gives are dubious and reflect an overprotective and proprietorial attitude towards the forum.
