Did I switch (and for now obvious reason)?

Postby MeAndWings » Fri Mar 08, 2013 11:36 pm

I'm not really sure how to put this or if I even remember it right, but it was this feeling that I got a few days ago.

All of sudden (I don't remember what I was doing or anything like that), I felt as if my heart kind of like... stopped? Well, it was more of a feeling of not breathing... Not like I felt like I couldn't breathe (I wasn't panicking), but it wasn't uncomfortable. It was more like 'oh, I have to remember to breathe' if you know what I mean? Then I also felt like... I don't know really, but I felt nausea/as if I was falling/weird. Very hard to describe! Anyone gets it?

If I remember it right, I was in my room doing something at the computer (things that I normally do). I'm confused about this whole thing, since you usually don't switch unless there's something that triggers it (?). And I have never switched before (can't be a 100% sure of it, but not as far as I know of), so I'd appreciate any thoughts you have on this.
I don't want to be forgotten.

quick reply from somewhere else.

I think I know the feeling. There are quite often situations in which I forget otherwise automatic things. Not breathing, but for example, I go to the toilet and have to remember to do my thing, so to say.
That is often when I just feel really weird. Something like you describe.

Switches aren't always obvious. And the trigger may not be obvious too (it can be really anything).

Happy to hear that someone gets some of it, at least. I can relate a little to the toilet-thing. Sometimes I go there and once I'm in the bathroom, I don't remember why I went there... And then a few minutes later (if I don't remember it right away, in a matter of seconds), I remember what I was going to do. I ask someone pretty often things like "what was I going to do again?"... Don't know if that has anything to do with switching/dissociation/anything like that?

I forgot to write it in my first post, but I don't think I switched fully, if you know what I mean. After that feeling that I tried to describe, things went back to normal.
I don't want to be forgotten.

AFAIK this is pretty normal and not necessarily dissociation related. I have it quite often.
More like, things that I normally do on 'auto-pilot' then suddenly don't get done at all and I have to consciously do them.

I have really poor memory retention which means I forget what has been said to me within seconds. Or I forget what I am going to do. I will walk around a supermarket for example and be reciting to myself: milk, sugar, flour, but then go blank at least 50 times and have to keep asking whoever I am with. The way I see it is there is so much going on inside all the time, so much "consciousness" used up there, that I, as the host, get very little. I live minute by minute with no memory of much at all. So yes whilst this is normal for people to walk into a room and forget why they did so, when it just gets silly and dysfunctional it is more related to dissociation.

I agree. Just like many other symptoms. It's mainly the degree that makes sure it's related to dissociation.
