Co-Consciousness & Co-Hosting ?

Could anyone explain to me the DIFFERENT and RELATIONSHIP between Co-Consciousness and Co-Hosting?

According to this forum, DID word meanings and common acronyms,

Co-Consciousness/Co-Awareness - when two or more persons are aware of what each other they are doing (and often feeling/thinking, etc).
Co-Hosting - when more than one person is out at once.

Here is my summary of what I have found through research co - everything to be. This page has not yet been edited by Tom Cloyd, who is dang good with DID, but it will be. I should have the general idea correct on it. I am currently working on referencing, so the main page is good. This page on Co-.... I am still working on.

If you see errors, I would love input on what is incorrect. This website is a group effort that anyone can join and improve, along with the other one listed in my signature too.

My goal is to take professional literature, and make it so that those of us with DID/DDNOS can understand it, along with what we FEEL is going on. Putting the 2 concepts together is my goal.

The way I like to remember things to help keep them straight is: You can be co-conscious without co-hosting.

Co-hosting is like, when more than one person is driving a car. Think of your body as the car. Co-hosting is when two or more alters are at the wheel, driving the car (aka being in control of your body).

Co-consciousness is like, when you have more than one person in a car, but the car may only have one driver. Co-hosting is when you have two or more alters in control. Co-consciousness is like, having passengers in a car. One alter is driving, the other alters are aware of what's going on, but they're not driving, so they're not in control of the body even though they know what the body's doing and stuff.

Co-hosting. In my system, before Alter 1 integrated with me, Alter 1 and Alter 2 sometimes would join together to take executive control of the body. That was co-hosting. At those times I would have what is known as a possession experience. I would be suddenly and completely dissociated from my body, as if paralyzed, yet able to see and hear what was going on, and I would be aware that my body was being controlled by two beings. I could hear Alter 2 speak to Alter 1, and sense Alter 1's nonverbal reply, but I had no access to their thoughts and emotions.

Co-consciousness. Sometimes I am aware of the presence of one or more of my alters, as if they are standing right behind me and looking over my shoulder, and at times I can even sense their thoughts and emotions. They are not sharing motor control of the body, so not co-hosting with me.

Co-consciousness. This happens all the time. One alter (host or not) is in control of the body, and one or more (but not many!) alters are nearby watching and aware of what's going on. As Una mentioned, the emotions, images, and attitudes of one (out or not) can sometimes be sensed by another. Sometimes I'm out and nobody else is paying much attention, as at work. Sometimes someone else is co-conscious with me and I sense they're near, though I'm not always sure who it is. Sometimes an alter is co-conscious with me and I have no clue until they giggle at something or I try to look in the mirror and I can't (nearly all of them won't look in the mirror).

Co-hosting. I'm not sure if there's an agreed definition. In our system, the only time two alters are in control together out front for any period of time has been seemingly by accident, when two of us get "stuck" out together. Both are out front, neither behind the other. Certain body characteristics are midway between the two. It feels like the dissociative barriers are way down. The experience is intimate, if weird and sometimes unsettling. If I didn't know it wasn't planned, it feels almost like two parts are practicing being integrated. We can't generate this (consciously) but looking at who has joined and who hasn't, I sense it's not been entirely random. There seems to be a feeling of great appreciation or longing for the other that occurs beforehand. The joining hasn't occurred between opposites like Jonathan and Quato. This may be kind of peculiar to our system for all I know.
