why are you anorexic

My friend is anorexic. I am trying to understand why. She is the youngest and favorite child in her family. Her mother is a strong character, overbearing.

Are there any anorexics out there who have insight into why they have this problem, because to starve yourself is not normal. Is a reaction to abuse? Stress? Is it feeling of control, maybe the only thing in your power you can control. Do you want to live? ...

Constant Cutting

I'm finding that I'm having constant mood changes from hour to hour. One hour I'll be high in mood and then the next I'll feel low. When I'm low I have panic attacks and start cutting. I've basically cut every night this week. I can't stop. I feel like the physical pain takes away all the emotional pain I feel inside. I feel so overwhelmed by my emotions, they just take over and I can't ...

My Story...What mental illness do you think i have?

What mental illness do I have in your opinion? Am I schizophrenic, schizoaffective, borderline or bipolar?

MY MENTAL HEALTH STORY

My birth-mum died when I was 18 months old. She had cancer while she was pregnant with me and was having chemotherapy treatment during her first two trimesters. They wanted her to have an abortion but because of her strong Christian beliefs she refused. To her abortion was the same as murder. I have four ...

What do you think?

I met this lady and we shall call her 'E', we had the same circle of friends and she actually added me on her social networking page before we had even met because her friends were talking with me etc. We spoke a few times and developed a rapport with each other which seemed to blossom and grow into a mutual affection.

We send each other birthday wishes and were able to joke and poke ...

Re: Is it wrong if noone gets hurt?

Since then I have refused to do any massage or even be with the girls alone.

This is good to do but I do wonder why you chose this course. What is it that would cause you to go further than you have as of yet? Can you explain what action it would take to put you over the edge?

The Dots...

Just wondering if this is common to OCD suffers:

I have a need to fulfill all the dots under my avatar, does having less cause problems?

does emotional control imply unemotional?

Curiosity coming out here...

To me expression of emotion (or lack thereof) seems to be a factor of various mental health conditions. If you have the ability to sympathise, understand and even predict other peoples emotional state and outcome does that imply that you understand emotion sufficiently to empathise? Do you even need any emotional context to perform these tasks?

If you witnes something horrific do you recognise that it is horrific or accept it ...

Happy to help

Hi everyone, I'm a newly registered pharmacist with Avoidant Personality Disorder (AvPD) and borderline Internet (or maybe just generalised computer?) addiction. I've been a member of these forums for a while (5 years I think?) and I think it's absolutely fantastic what this forum's doing in terms of making us feel less alone. If there's any general questions about your medications, e.g. side effects, coming on/off antidepressants, etc please feel free to post here ...

Being social is torture.

I really want to believe it gets better. Every social event/interaction for me is complete misery. It's so hard to keep fighting the urge to burst into tears or sneak off into the bathroom and cut myself. I wonder if I'm just hopeless. I just have absolutely no fun being social. I'm too anxious andI have nothing to say because of years of being to shut up. Then as I got older people chastised me ...
