"Child Abuse Survivor Manual"

I came across this gem buried in the net recently. It comes from the ASCA - Morris Foundation I believe out of San Francisco.

We have some support groups in Australia using it and they have found it very worthwhile.

As children we develop coping strategies. DID lying, acquiescence, whatever we can do that appears to minimize our suffering. We grow up in a life greatly reduced by our boundaries.

As young adults our survival ...

When I was 11, I was in a very abusive daycare. She and her husband did bad things. She picked the children up by their hair and shook them. She used to throw the little babies in the cribs when they wouldn't stop crying. That of course just made them cry even more which ...

Am I Being Abused?

I'm in my teens, and I live in a house hold of six and lately it has been getting overwhelming with what it has become.

I live in run down trailer home, and in 4th grade my parents took me out of school for no reason, and they have not taught me ANYTHING. I honestly can't do full-on subtraction, I can't do multiplication at all. I should have learned all that years ago.

My parents ...

I need some advice

I'm going to make this as short as possible because nobody wants to read a textbook. I am the usual person whose father left and had a very dysfunctional family, with my mother being an alcoholic and completely emotionally and physically abusive to me and my grandmother for years (I have tried to run away three times and got CPS involved in the past). I was very isolated at school and had no social skills ...

What should I do?

Hey everyone, I am new to this forum :P Let me share my story. I am 13 years old, and my parents are nearly divorced (they live in different cities). My brother and I stayed with our mom, ever since 4th grade. She is the pushy type of mom, who "forces" me to study study study. I love her, but sometimes she can go overboard with punishments, ...

Is this emotional abuse?

This is probably something that's seen on here millions of times, but I just want to get something off my chest and be told if I'm right in what I'm thinking or not. So here we go.

Okay, so my mum. She's been diagnosed with depression, I think in her late teens already? Two years ago it flared up again, so she got antidepressants, and was pretty out of it for a while. Which is ...

Does CPS ever make things worse?

I'm worried that if I report a case of parents abusing their teenager to Child Protective Services, the parents will be be able to convince CPS that everything is fine, and then once they're in the clear they'll retaliate against the teenager because she couldn't keep a secret. Can anyone comment on this?

How common is it to not tell the child?

I have memories of being sexually abused by my older brother when i was 5. If anything happened before that, i dont know, because no one in my family will open up about it. I have only had my mom confess once in my life that it happened. I am now 26. I have spent many years in depression and i blame early childhood trauma and lack of proper therapy. I have heard that sexual ...
