Ad's eating bandwidth

Postby ridingthewtfbus » Sat Jan 03, 2015 9:53 pm

I've noticed over the past few weeks that things take a much longer time to load, and it appears to be due to the advertisements on the left side of each page. Has anyone else noticed this? Can the site admin please take a look and attempt to address it?

And have you tried different browsers?

I have an adblocker and it takes all the ads away...but on the phone the site is pretty messy.

I've noticed the same thing. I mentioned it off-hand in a previous post. It very, very slow. Not only on my computer, at the library too. I'm not very tech savvy but people who are have told me that sites that are too busy will download more slowly, and the ads on here are just out of control.

Ad blocks on both computer and cellphone works pretty good.

I'll also add my 5 cents here, site performance has been noticeably worse for several weeks now due to excessive ad load times. It appears to be the ads on the left hand side of the page that are causing the problems, I have no real proof of that other then that being what the browser finally loads after pausing for a considerable amount of time. Enabling Adblocker solves the problem. I am running Firefox and Google Chrome on Windows 8.1.

Also as has already been noted the mobile presentation of the site is sorely lacking. Additionally there is one ad that has an autoplay audio track which can consume 20MB of data if I have audio turned off and I am unaware of it. Mobile data in the USA is $$$ so 20MB for a page view really isn't sustainable. Again adding an add blocker fixed this.
