Car's First Birthday? Fender-Bender. :-(

We've had our new car for a year. Been taking excellent care of it, being careful, etc.

Early this afternoon, we were pulling into a parking space at the supermarket. The driver parked in the next space to the right of us was getting out of the driver's seat of his car. Don't know the sequence, but our front bumper and his driver door made contact.

His car got the worst of it. We have damage to the passenger end of our front bumper, and scratches to the headlight in that area. His driver door ended up dented, jarred out of place, and not closeable.

He had only bought his vehicle a week prior.

At least no one was injured.

We exchanged information and photographed each other's documents--license, registration, insurance. Then he left.

After we got groceries and went home, we called our mechanic to get a recommendation on a body shop. Then we called our insurance company and filed a claim. We were told that an adjuster would be in touch with us on Monday.

Our life has been hard enough. It just got even harder.

I'm so sorry that happened to you MDs! Such a pain in the rear. Very glad noone was hurt though.

I hope things go smoothly with the insurance stuff.

oh no! So sorry! you don't deserve that. It's really more than enough difficult stuff going on already.
I hate when... when our belongings are not safe. It makes us all not feel safe anymore. I hope you can keep calm and it will be easy to figure out.

and the $#%^ storm continues..... dang MDs. it would be nice if you could catch a ######6 break for once.

Well, at least the claims lady had a soothing customer service manner. We told her that we appreciated how she helped calm us down during a stressful situation.

Really? And you just got that car. Glad you weren't hurt but sad you have to go through more problems.

Thank you both. Yes, more problems. We are in a bad place today, which is typical with Sundays lately. We called our T at about 5pm telling her we needed to Skype with her. She said that she could do it at about 7pm. We hope so. Her adult daughter is in the latter stages of a degenerative illness. We feel bad for contacting our T during this time of difficulty for her, even though she said it's okay to do so.

Just trying to hang on. So much in our life causing us pain now.

We finally took our car for repair this morning.

First we had to deal with moving, then we had to deal with the insurance company, then we had to get an estimate....and get back in touch with the insurance company. The people at our insurance company have the emotional intelligence of a tree stump.

Our agency (another company that serves as a middleman for obtaining coverage) is fine.

Anyway, getting the front bumper replaced is supposed to take three days. Our car is an Impreza. The rental is a Corolla. Rental coverage is never enough to get the same size car as the one that's being repaired. The daily allowance doesn't even cover the full cost of a smaller car.

We just want this to be over. And we want the replacement bumper to look as good as the original did before the accident. Two cars prior, we had similar repair, and the replacement bumper never looked the same.
