Questioning the whole 'disorder' thing

I just had a thought.

Most of us schizoids are fine the way we are. We enjoy being alone, we enjoy living inside our heads. We do not bother other people, we don't commit crimes, we only wish they would stop bothering us.

In other words, in our point of view we don't have a disorder at all, since many of us would never consider trying to change who we are as we are quite ...

Increasing mental disorder?

Why do you think that there is more mental disorder/illness/deviance from the norm nowadays? I mean, why has it been increasing for years? I don't think that it can be attributed solely to the fact that there are just more people in the world, or that mental 'problems' are more readily identified now.
Breakdown of society/the nuclear family model/isolation? I have my own mental 'issues' that aren't attributable to anything obvious, but why?
The number ...

Art therapy.

I'm scared and confused. I don't know what's right and what's wrong. I know I get paranoid and I'm constantly alert to danger. Mostly I'm scared. Do we talk, do we not talk, what's right and what's wrong.

The art therapy was last week. First one. Nice lady, but that doesn't mean she can't harm us. Like the others, the social worker and the CBT lady. Lovely and a help to us, both of them, ...

Can video games bring on Tourette tics in child?

Say a child plays a lot of combat video games. She or he is 10 years old. Might the high use of video games bring on Tourette type tics? How does a neurologist determine if a child has Tourette? What kind of help is there?
Thanks

Which Song Best Describes You?

Some time ago, Anti created a song thread that best describes our experiences, which in turn gave me the idea for this thread.
In this thread I want you to choose a song that best describes how you see yourself and explain why you chose that particular song. If you can also think of a song that best describes how you see certain other members here, add that one as well and explain your choice. ...

How do you feel about talking on the phone?

I´ve read something about people with AS having a dislike for talking on the phone. The reason, I think, was that they supposedly have trouble knowing when it is their turn to talk.

So now I´d like to know how you feel about phone calls. If you actually do dislike them, why? If you, as I´ve read, are not sure about when to speak, could you please elaborate on that? I personally only have trouble ...

Asperger's Syndrome, PDD-NOS & DSM-V ???

I'm guessing that Petrossa is going to know the answer to this but I'm going to ask everyone just in case: Who knows what will happen to a pre-existing PDD-NOS diagnosis when the DSM-V comes out? My neuropsychologist said I'd "just be labeled as 'spectrum;'" does that mean ASD, HFA? She did actually use the term HFA at one point, but I was so stunned by the diagnosis and confused by much of what she ...

Dating during DBT

So I have been working heavily with DBT for awhile now, and I am feeling somewhat confident in myself to approach the dating scene again after all the mess I went through before (cheated on, non's wanting nothing to do with a BPD).

Those who are using DBT or have so in the past, do you have any advice? I feel like I have this new weapon, and I want to use it, but I ...
