Does your T address your alters?

Postby brockovich4321 » Fri Dec 13, 2019 11:40 am

For those of you in regular therapy, which of your alters goes/who talks to the T?

I found out yesterday that only 4/16 of my parts are participating in our regular therepy sessions. I would prefer if it was 9/16 parts minimum.

If an alter announces themselves, does your T acknowledge that alter or do they call that alter by the host name?

There's only a few of us who ever front AFAIK. I think, 6 of us (out of about 20) have spoken to our T.

She... "kinda" addresses us all by our individual names? We have some issues with her on that cos she sometimes talks wierd but not consistently enuf for us to like catch it and make a big fuss or whatever.

Anyways, yeah she does know our names & when we're there she knows which one.

Usually we don't switch at T so she'll ask or we'll tell her once we're there, who it is she's seeing. Sometimes she can tell just by looking, but sometimes she can't.

FWIW we don't have a 'host', just sorta cycle thru different alters who front a bunch then stop and someone else takes over. When we're like out in the waiting room or whatever, our T uses the legal / body name. But once we're in the session we've told her to use our individual names.

Our Ts talk to all of us equaly but we do not use individual names most of the time. We just have a conversation and the Ts talks to us and adress who fronts at the moment and adjust themselves to us as well as they can. (we have three Ts)

mostly one of the hosts will go to therapy but everyone is welcome.
our T usually adjusts to whoever is there in the way she behaves. she also waits for us to identify ourselves and doesn't push it, even if we clearly switched. she mainly sticks to calling us 'you' without using names at all, including the hosts names. it is more about the topics we work on or current needs for regulation, no matter who is fronting. She is not making it a big thing when we switch.
for us, the hosts usually present a problem we ran into with our system and we discuss how to solve it, with the hosts trying to communicate with those inside who are involved.
As long as there is inner cooperation going on we don't need all parts to interact with the T personally.

Sunflower's T uses the legal name in public (waiting room), but in session or private will talk to individuals and by name.

Hi

Sometimes when I walked in her office and our old T would say 'Hi Iain'. She recognized me just walking in! That was SO cool! Our new T is trying to use our names but doesn't always get it right. That's ok.

I think a T who doesn't use names is not paying attention or maybe just thinks were like made up or delusions or something. I wouldn't like that.

When they say 'be yourself',
which one do they mean?

It is mostly our littles/tweens who talk with the T, since as a system our feeling is that they need to be there the most. He welcomes whoever comes, and will use a name if he clearly recognizes one of us, but he keeps all of us in mind, so sometimes he'll say something he wants everyone to hear or for us to pass on to everyone. If someone shows up and seems to have not been there before, he'll say, "Hi, I'm [name]," and be very welcoming.

He wants to adjust to whatever we need, so if he starts using "big words" and the littles don't like it, we can say something, and he'll change how he's saying things.

At this point, older ones communicate with the T more by email, and we let the littles have the actual session time where they can really be in the room with him. They block older ones from being able to express themselves clearly when we're there, so it helps to be able to write more complex thoughts and feelings to him when we're not there.

Despite all the waffling... our's has at times addressed Pixie, Angel, or someone else... and has spoken to Pixie and Kitten each on their own...

Hi, brockovich. Good to see you.

Our T addresses whoever is speaking by using the individual's name. We use our individual names in session, in text or in email, but we use the body name when we call her. Not sure why we do the latter--it's just what feels more comfortable for us.

Mostly it's the adults or older teens who speak to her in session, though most of the others are listening from inside. If someone who usually doesn't front in session does so, we usually don't like to state who's out, because we have issues about not seeming distinct enough to her. So we try to clarify who we are in the subject matter that we speak about.
