How do I communicate?

Postby FireFlySkyeMBG » Fri Aug 09, 2019 10:30 pm

I am the host of at least one other alter. She is Serena and she is my not-fully-human protector. I can communicate with her and we are regularly CoCon with one another. However, there are definitely more alters because I have heard them in my head. However, I can't reach out to them the way I can with Serena.

If anyone has any tips to talk to them, it would be much appreciated.

Hi & welcome to the forum!

We're still working on communications too, but there's a few things we've figured out.

First is journalling. We prefer pen & paper but other systems use like computer files or apps or whatever. Just write whenever, make notes to the others in your system telling t hem its ok for them to write too.

Second is just talking out loud at them. For us it works best if we're active, like out walking or on our bicycle. Or doing workouts indoors even. Just talk and listen for answers.

Another thing in our system we found different parts respond differently. There's one in our system who'd only respond to written stuff. Another who'd only respond when we spoke to her out loud. So its good to try more than one thing.

We also sometimes get one part to pass messages to others we can't talk to. So like maybe Serena can communicate with some of the others even if you can't.

And last thing is, be patient and keep trying. Sometimes it takes a while for the message to get through to them, or takes time for them to feel its safe to try answering. And they might not know how either so it can take time for them to figure it out too.

Something else, which can lead to communication, is to put out things for alters to do. Most systems have littles, young alters, and a couple ideas are to leave stuffed animals or coloring books with crayons around your living space. These are general toys and cover a pretty broad age range and there are others, like lego blocks. Virtually all of my littles like toys appropriate for kids their age. Saying aloud and leaving a sign that these are for anyone who's interested and sending an internal message (anyway you can) may get your intention across.
