Anyone use the dissociative experience scale?

Postby Sarandipity » Sun Feb 03, 2019 9:49 pm

I use it as a self monitoring tool. If I'm at about 35 then I think that's "ok" for me personally. I just did it, apparently I hadn't don't it since June last year and I usually like to do it every couple of months so that's not great for starters. As I said if I'm around the 35 mark I feel that's ok. I just did it and got a 70 reading. I'm not surprised because of the twins waking up, I'd forgotten all about them, that's been a whole learning curve and I am doing a few things without realising - putting things in places I don't like them, drinking coffee far too late, not remembering things I've agreed to or said but it's bound to happen with having to get used to the twins plus they still are playing around a little with their imaginings. But still 70 score is really really high for me.

Does anyone else use the scale for self monitoring and if so what sort of numbers do you find are an "ok" or livable level for you?

Thanks in advance.

We do it now and then. From our notes, we had a 74 the first time we did it.

Most recently it was around 60 or 65.

Hi, thanks for replying. I realised I could search "scale" at the top and alot of posts came up about it. It seemed from reading a few that between 60-80 is quite high for people here and 25-40 is "ok" for people here. From what I was reading anyway.

I was trying to work out if I need to particularly worry. I have concluded I definitely need to do something more than I am doing to incorporate the twins into life because although they're awake, or because they're awake, it's definitely causing dissociative outcomes.

Thanks for reply. I suddenly thought hang on I can search on here and then when I clicked back to say "it's ok I searched it up" you had already replied but I still appreciate the time you took to share - thanks :)

fwiw, I think that scale measures amnesia more than anything else.

we also use "DES" a lot. that might bring up new topics on a search.

I have scored below 50 once or twice. but I'm usually 60s -70s.

I use it every now and then to see how we're doing overall. Well my score normally runs in the 60's. Now I just took it an got an 85. YIKES! No wonder though.....our system is a mess right now. :(

Not a lot. Some of us find it scary when it's higher for us. They feel like we'll improve.

I forget the score I first got on it when the doctors first had me do it, but I have not done it since... but I think I might go do it just to see if it's changed a lot.

I like the idea of it being done as a "self-monitoring tool". Never crossed my mind. Thanks for that idea. :)

I'm glad I posted this. It's reminded me to do it. I can't right this second because I got mildly dissociated writing about the twins just now. So I don't think I'm upto it. But I'm glad I wrote this to remind me I need to do it more often at the moment and I'm also glad to hear it's helped someone. Beth (but Karen wrote the original post).
