Terrified

Postby Alexcener » Mon Feb 12, 2018 12:45 pm

Right now it's 6:35AM. I couldn't sleep any longer.

Anytime that I am close to deep sleep I hear slamming doors or growling that wakes me up. I usually hear someone begging me not to go back to sleep. Or to get up.

I'm scared and I don't know what's going on and I can't seek help from a therapist until later this week but I want to talk to one ASAP.

My body hurts. My eyes are sore. My legs ache. My back is throbbing. But I am not shaking.

I don't know if what I hear is real or if it's just a dream I don't remember. But the growls are starting to happen daily and I fear it might soon lead to something else.

Have anyone else experienced this?

Hi A,
I am 62 and was misdiagnosed for years with anx and depression then borderline then some psychotic personality and have none. I told shrinks and therapists about these nocturnal sounds which gave me insomnia. And of course they write down psychosis. recently I decided to research the sounds noises bumps in the night, etc. and found something called “musical ear.” I am 62 and live alone and when I would hear the sounds you describe or different mostly, I would put ear plugs in and the sounds got worse. it was very annoying and I do have to do a bit of work to knock myself. out so be it. But I hear things like my door shutting and opening or somebody knocking on it which scares me because I live in a cabin in the woods. But there has never been anybody there I hear my mother calling me but she has been dead for 25 years. I do hear voices telling me to get up, I often hear musical notes that are kind of just floating around the room, usually A tuba, and mostly people mumbling in the next room but of course in the woods there is no room next-door. I did some research and did find “musical ear” which is common to people in their later years to develop and I’ve had it for a long time. I went to a good Sleep center for medication but where I live they just give a CPAP. Running a fan and white noise helps as does sharing so you can see it’s normal and lessen fear. Of course do your do you due diligence and explore the topic to make sure you don’t have a more serious problem then tell somebody you trust.

Our previous host went through a period of about a year or year and a bit, where she dreaded going to sleep due to constant nightmares. I don't remember how it was resolved, or if it eventually faded on its own... She also took to sleeping with the TV on, so that the chatter of the TV would drown out the voices and other sounds she heard at night.

For me, I have to have music playing at night, for the same reason - drown out the voices and noises.

I don't often hear voices, but I hear a kind of white noise, and also Nico and Ethan are affraid of the dark, so we're used to go to sleep with music. It covers the white noise and every little sounds which could keep us awake.
The one we use is a piano music which last 1h. It was the music I used for meditation for years, so I'm kind of conditioned to relax when I hear this music, and it helps a lot.
1h is enough to allow us to fall asleep, but if you need it, you can find longer (or shorter) musics on Youtube.

we have experienced something similar while in bed waiting to go to sleep; hearing voices from within. It is our belief that while waiting to sleep we enter something akin to a trance state which will bring up something like a flashback, which is nearly always accompanied by a general anxiety/fear state. our littles can be afraid of sleeping, fearing nightmares. Sometimes we have to leave the light on in our bedroom.

You are going through a rough patch! If it turns out you do have DID, you can try to communicate inside. You can do this by "speaking" inside, in your mind, to whoever is there. You can speak aloud, you can journal, you can send emotions or images of empathy and benevolence towards anyone who might be hurting. Trying various ways of getting through to them helps with alters who are very young or who, for whatever reason, don't communicate in words.

If you don't have DID, I can't think how this kind of intent to communicate with yourself could possibly cause problems but you can be the judge of that.

If you have DID, the growling could be an alter who identifies as an animal or is animal-like, a common situation. We have a very young alter like that and my adopted son has a primary alter who used to identify as a werewolf and is still animal-like in some ways.

If you have DID, all sorts of sounds may come from alters. We have one guy who used to make sound effects inside, like the AH-OO-GUH honk of a cartoon car.

What you can say to alters is exactly what's happening and why you're concerned. In other words, what you wrote in your post. If they are alters, it can help to let them know you want to help them (only say that if you actually do) but you can only do that if you aren't sleep-deprived and terrified.
Dx = DID. My blog. My personal Periodic Table of 78 alters.

I agree with everything Johnny-Jack said. Communication is key, and I also agree that it doesn't seem like you could go wrong either way. If you don't have alters, no harm done, but if you do, reaching out to them can be so helpful!

Gee, thanks, now one of my littles thinks that's a great sound to repeat over and over!
