Pinned threads

Postby Una+ » Tue Mar 28, 2017 3:32 pm

Currently the DID Forum has a whole bunch of pinned threads that stay at the top of the first page no matter what.

Do you like that?

I have decided I do not like it. In fact it is irritating me greatly. Most of the pinned threads are popular so usually they are on the first page anyway. They really don't need to be pinned. Also, now that so many threads are pinned, every time I refresh the page I have to scroll down to find the actual new posts and especially the new threads. For me new threads take priority; they tend to be much more interesting and they deserve attention.

Hi Una+.

I was confused when I first saw the new pinned threads. I understand pinning some of them (like the animals or littles threads, because those alters may not be able to find those threads quickly) but I can also understand the popular threads usually being at the top.

I think that in pinning selected threads it should be important to ask who will be using the threads and why they are pinned—the search function on the forum is broken, so it may be hard to find certain threads that are not constantly updated (the teens thread comes to mind) ... however threads like the how are you today thread maybe would not really benefit from being pinned.

I also agree about new posts and new threads—with all the pinned threads there is less space for regular new posts. I think a healthy compromise can be reached without removing all of the pinned threads, just the ones that do not benefit from being pinned (:

we already expressed that we find it confusing and of little value.
a google search helps finding lost threads easily.

Would appreciate the pinned items more if they were for support rather than blowing off a bit of steam. Yeah, that's important, but people in our system have wished there were subforums for specific alter types, such as introjects, sexual alters, transgenders, etc. We know there are tons of new "Oh my gosh, help me!!!" threads started every week and very, very few "fun" ones ... I just wish a few good support threads got pinned, too.

PS: The search works fine for us.

I've added a poll to this thread. I pinned the threads since I had been asked to pin them there, but if enough of you vote no, I'll have all but the littles thread, and the ones that were already pinned previously unpinned.
I have ADHD. Possibly have another mental disorder but am not certain.

Some of them aren't that important, but I think the "For Helper", "For the teenagers" and "Animals alter" should stay pinned.

Vote! Pinned threads, YES or NO?

Postby Una+ » Thu Mar 30, 2017 1:14 pm

If I were in favor of pinned threads then I would want to pin threads about the DES, the MID, songs that remind us of DID, DID in books and films, differential diagnosis of DID vs schizophrenia, bipolar, borderline PD, etc., also how to find a therapist etc. How about pinning a thread for significant others? Parents of children with DID? Children of parents with DID? And so on.

But the main correlation I have noticed here is a dramatic drop-off in new threads by new readers. Perhaps it is just a coincidence, but I suspect there is a causal relationship.

So the "How are you" thread and "Fun: You know you're DID when" threads should be unpinned?

That would be a lot of threads to pin. Also, are there already existing threads for the last two you listed? So, do you think the pinned threads are scaring people away and preventing them from posting?
