Do you consider yourself a failure?

Postby Coralie » Fri Mar 06, 2009 12:05 am

I do. I've failed as a child to my parents, as a friend to my friends, as a student, as a woman and I don't know what to do about it. The horrible thing is that I do try but I just fail everytime. Is this common with people with AvPD?

Yes and no. On one hand I'm almost through with college and have a bright career ahead of me....but I have no friends, never had a girlfriend, will probably never have a family of my own, and have regressed socially.

Yes I do feel the same way. I have so many past failures and regrets and I do often consider myself a big failure and looser. The worst part about it is I felt like I was in control of all the times I failed and that only adds to the guilt. It's one thing to have misfortune come your way when you had no idea it was coming your way because then it does feel like your fault. But when you have control you feel responsible for all your failures.

And yeah I think it probably is a common aspect of AvPD.....as avoidants we avoid and when we avoid we only feel guilty for what we avoid.

However I wouldn't get too discouraged.....your life is still ahead of you and who knows you may change in time. Or bump into what you seek without knowing.

Yep, I've failed as a person, daughter, student...I've failed at pretty much everthing I've tried and its all my fault.

And yes as far as I know low self esteem and self hate is common with avoidants.
Pink ribbon scars that never forget, I tried so hard to cleanse these regrets...

What's the definition of failure? I've got a job anyway. Not the greatest job. Not the worst job either. I've got no prospects to procreate so I'm a failure in that respect.

I think I consider myself more of a loser than a failure, not sure why though.

I have no friends, and I've never been in love. I feel like I've failed at being human. :(

Something similar to what Parador said earlier. I've got a good job and coworkers and management seem to like what I do (but I'm so depressed recently that I can't work at all so I might get fired). People that know me seem to like me, especially when I'm drunk. Everything else feels like $#%^.
