do you laugh at yourself?

Postby Little Boy Lost » Tue Jul 17, 2012 5:17 am

I'm curious if posters can find humor in their failures? do you ever make yourself the butt of your own jokes? can you tolerate having someone else tell a joke about you (assuming it is not malicious)? can you play the clown in public and intentionally make a fool out of youself for others' amusement?

i don't have aproblem with any of the scenario but if i use self-deprecating humor, it is never a putdown directed at myself. i'm likely to describe a situation in which i committed an error in judgment which caused something humorously unfortunate to happen to me.

I am often amused when things go wrong.

i do the last one much more easily than others. it makes them like you.

there are exceptions, but i seldom appreciate it when someone else jokes about me. i'm pretty likely to take vengeance with a moderately more insulting joke about that person. i seem to need control and i dislike anyone else having it. also, he gets credit for something funny about me and that's lame. Lastly, i would usually prefer to be the center of attention and they should all be listening to me, not someother person.

I often laugh at myself when I make errors and fail at things.

Yes.

Yes, but they better be ready for one about them in return. I find many people can dish them out but get all butt hurt when you do it back to them. Of course, I can be malicious when I tell one about them... but it's disguised in humor... so they look like assholes if they say anything about it :P It's amusing. I've never been called out on it.

Yup :P For some reason people like this and it's a very easy way to get people in your 'corner' so to speak.

Interesting, Tempest. you are unusual because women never do the 4th. i can try to persuade them however i like but women will not act silly to make a group laugh at them.

i am pretty sure i would notice if a woman joked a lot (as often as i do). it's nearly universal that i say humorous things and they laugh. i don't even know what it's like to talk to a girl who uses humor heavily. i suspect i wouldn't care for it because if she's joking, i must be listening instead of talking. :P

No. It seems a little self-sabotaging to make yourself the butt of your own joke.

can you tolerate having someone else tell a joke about you (assuming it is not malicious)?

If it's not malicious and it's in good taste, then it doesn't bother me at all. I don't appreciate malicious jokes and I make that very clear to the person telling it, one way or another.

can you play the clown in public and intentionally make a fool out of youself for others' amusement?

I'm more of a serious-minded person. I don't joke around much as it is and certainly not in public. With that said though, I remember hanging out with a group of people years ago who my boyfriend (back then) and I used to know. We'd party on the weekends, getting drunk and stoned. I was the wildest one in the group doing some of the craziest shlt when I was drunk. It was never for anybody else's amusement though other than my own and I don't recall anybody ever telling me I made a fool of myself. I know they thought I was a little crazy though, literally.

Yes, I laugh at myself, and the things I do. I'm very easy going around people in person, I laugh a lot naturally.

When others joke about me, I take it, laugh and make a joke, and then make a joke about them. I do crazy things at times that make others laugh and shock them. People like those with a wild side, they also feel warmer to those who laugh a lot. It makes them happy, so it's easier to get them closer. People love to be around naturally happy people, it boosts their mood.
I need some meaning I can memorize,
The kind I have always seems to slip my mind

When I supposedly make mistakes, I blame other people so I'm never at fault, thus can't be made a joke of.

I find humor in my failures but usually only after I've given myself time figure out what I did wrong and release my frustration.

I make myself the butt of jokes quite a bit. It can cause others to underestimate you or not take you seriously enough, it's just a matter of not giving a weakness away.

I love when people joke about me, and I prefer them a little malicious. Sarcasm and passive-agressiveness are two qualities that make a good impression on me. Obviously their are some areas where joking is not tolerated.

As with above playing a clownish role can allow you to take advantage of being underestimated. Being seen as a funny person can also help you in certain social situations.

Am I the only one here who rarely laughs (either at myself or at others)?

I can sit down with my daughter and watch that stupid 'funniest home video show' on tv that's supposed to be funny and hardly laugh at all at it. My brother used to joke a lot and I'd rarely ever laugh at his jokes, which used to annoy him. While I can be witty at times (online more so than off), people more often tell me I'm too serious and need to chill out more. Well, that's just it. I am chilled out. If I chilled out anymore I'd be growing f*cking icicles.

That might very well be the saddest thing you've said about yourself this far. :P

Edit:
Oh, and I laugh at myself all the time. :P
