Dire straits - Money For Nothing
Is is true that this song was banned on canada for saying 'That little #######1 he's a millionaire'?
Fuking gay dictatorship
Now look at them yo-yo's that's the way you do it
You play the guitar on the MTV
That ain't workin', that's the way you do it
Money for nothin' and chicks for free
Now that ain't workin', that's the way you do it
Lemme tell ya, them guys ain't dumb
Maybe get a blister on your little finger
Maybe get a blister on your thumb

We gotta install microwave ovens
Custom kitchen deliveries
We gotta move these refrigerators
We gotta move these colour TV's

See the little #######1 with the earring and the makeup
Yeah, buddy, that's his own hair
That little #######1 got his own jet airplane
That little #######1 he's a millionaire

We gotta install microwave ovens
Custom kitchens deliveries
We gotta move these refrigerators
We gotta move these colour TV's

We gotta install microwave ovens
Custom kitchens deliveries
We gotta move these refrigerators
We gotta move these colour TV's

I shoulda learned to play the guitar
I shoulda learned to play them drums
Look at that mama, she got it stickin' in the camera
Man, we could have some fun
And he's up there, what's that? Hawaiian noises?
Bangin' on the bongoes like a chimpanzee
That ain't workin' that's the way you do it
Get your money for nothin', get your chicks for free

We gotta install microwave ovens
Custom kitchen deliveries
We gotta move these refrigerators
We gotta move these colour TV's

Now that ain't workin', that's the way you do it
You play the guitar on the MTV
That ain't workin', that's the way you do it
Money for nothin' and your chicks for free
Money for nothin' and chicks for free
Money for nothin' and chicks for free
Money for nothin' and chicks for free

I'm finding quite a few of these in my collection which I never new I had. It's strange how I chose songs without knowing what it meant.

Feeder, Descend (Lyrics)

I'm not insane
I can't reach the pain

If I could be all by myself
I could be me
I never seen you looking so bad my funky one / You tell me that your superfine mind has come undone (Steely Dan, Any Major Dude)

Found another one. I think I've got a lot of these. I think subliminally the lyrics appealed to me in a way I didn't understand. I thought it was just a "vibe" I liked.

Filter, (Can't You) Trip Like I Do (Lyrics)

The lyrics should be obvious (4 year-old with non-4 year-old skills; unable to see because he's eating from his eyes). The constant theme is "be like me" (trip like I do). This expands at the end to being exactly like me, repeating:

Can't you trip, can't you think, can't you feel like I do
Can't you walk, can't you breathe, can't you trip like I do...
I never seen you looking so bad my funky one / You tell me that your superfine mind has come undone (Steely Dan, Any Major Dude)

Buffalo Springfield, Mr. Soul (Lyrics)

The opening verses sound like the song could be about ordinary narcissism arising from being a rock star. But, the ending sounds more pathological:

In a while will the smile on my face turn to plaster?
Stick around while the clown who is sick does the trick of disaster
For the race of my head and my face is moving much faster
Is it strange I should change? I don't know, why don't you ask her?

He let the girl know her after she said "You're strange, but don't change."

To me, what's described above is what happens to me. I change like that (coldness, analyzing everything, extracting reassurance) -- thinking that's just who I am. The song ends on that note of irony: what she liked was strangeness. But, his strangeness is what led to him changing. Was it what she bargained for? I don't know. Ask her.

This song stood out to me while I was searching for what my problem was. When I identified with narcissism, the song stood out more to me (about 14 months ago). Now I see it real clearly.

Being self-aware, I identify to the lyrics of this one. If you replace "superslowmotion" with "the inner narrative," that's what it seems to be about. The first part describes it taking over. The second part describes it failing. The final part sounds retrospective, self aware.

The emphasis seems to be on that noise/vibe/presence many of us describe being aware of. The thing that literally gets the upper hand and we don't realize it.

Grant Lee Buffalo - SuperSloMotion

Sleepy rhythms were lulling us
Trolling down a long canal
Onto savage shores and gilded floors
Of coliseums through the load-in door

Certain of this one thing
That superslomotion got the upper hand on me
On me, on me

Holy visions had ceased to come
My tongue was numb and I was feeling tired
Crying out in a wordless howl
Screeching off to the underground

Certain of this one thing
That superslomotion got the upper hand on me
On me, on me, on me

Sleepy rhythms were lulling us
Syrup sweet and poisonous
How I found my way back, I'm not sure
Through the channels and little streets that curve

Certain of this one thing
That superslomotion got the upper hand on me
On me, on me, on me

I've been going through my collection paying more attention to what songs moved me prior to being self-aware, and if there was any reason. I don't know if it means anything that I liked this song. It's probably coincidence.

But, something weird/coincidental. Lately I've been thinking about how I've reached a point of certainty about what makes me tick, I'm able to work with it, feel comfortable with it. It struck me how this song is about that kind of certainty.

There's been a lot of weird coincidences like that for the past 3-4 years. Maybe I'm doing "magic thinking." But, something about it makes it more real. Some kind of confirmation, like something's speaking to me. (But, I guess it's random.).

FN females should resist ExN males and hold out for an FN male. Then their mutual abandonment issues will glue them together, mirror surface to mirror surface.

yeah, then they have kids and emotionally abuse them, neglecting, shaming and sometimes even physically hurting them. My parents are the above combination you stated

I'm certain that even during times when I've been in partial denial I've always taken the view that I would never do unto others what was do unto me. I have to stand with my people. They are part of me, after all.

the very nature of this pathology or personality disorder or whatever you class it as, is that you will hurt those closest to you. Unless you've made significant changes, but then you wouldnt really be classed as a narcissist anymore. It was done to me by my parents, my sister is doing it to her son, so my nephew. I do it to my friends. It's not a conscious decision. You cannot be a narcissist and not hurt those close to you unless you are 'close' in an un-intimate way, but then you wouldnt be close would you really. My sister makes me sick, she has the same disorder as me, so if i was in her shoes, i would be hurting the boy too (emotionally). She sees his needs as threats and assualts on her person, and reacts by ignoring him, shouting at him, and he's 3. The only way i can draw some sort of moral high ground is that i will not have children until i know i am fit and capable to handle it. Or never at all.
So you would do to others what was done to you. Our disorder puts us in a position that we cant not do what was done to us, to others. Yes your in denial. Think im sounding blunt here, but its true

Seems to be a song about mirrors, mirrors everywhere. Sadistic acquisition of supply, followed by dissatisfaction.

Louis XIV - Finding Out True Love Is Blind (Lyrics)

Wind you up and make you crawl to me
Tie you up until you call to me
I never seen you looking so bad my funky one / You tell me that your superfine mind has come undone (Steely Dan, Any Major Dude)

Havent read the replies but The Strokes seem to embody NPD for me. The album 'is this it' seems to capture the spirit of NPD, and the lead singer looks like a narcissist so that could be why (or i could just be delusional here)
Stick the album on when im feeling empty and it sort of makes me feel like yeah, atleast im not the only one who feels this $#%^
