Lighting?

Postby Snuffthroostr » Thu Nov 03, 2016 11:04 am

Does anyone else sometimes have an issue where you suddenly realize that the room you are in is suddenly MUCH brighter that it was like 30 seconds earlier? I've asked other people if they notice a difference, but they don't.

Yes this has happened before as well. Not sure what it means though. Probably just me paying more attention to my surroundings.

Absolutely. I am a support person, and this was an ongoing issue with my SO. I learned to keep the lights low in many circumstances.

can't say i have had that kind of thing...but i have had things like sound (TV) get very low though the volume never actually changed from seconds before it happened. i do have times where i go outside on cloudy days, and it is really bright, so i have to wear sunglasses..i think it can be just how my nervous system is (not related to DID) because sometimes sounds in general also can be too much for me to handle (amplified) or smells can cause me to be nauseous, etc. so things can just be a system overload so to speak. having sensitivities to these kinds of things is actually very common in a lot of people with or without a mental health issue diagnosed.

We keep the lights low at home (we live alone), but we don't like low light at work. One or more of us gets triggered when co-workers don't turn all the lights on in open space areas. For whatever reason, we see a sharp division in our view of public space vs. private space. Those in here who get triggered believe that by default, all open areas in a public space should be lit during business hours.

We consider our office "public" even though it has a door that we can lock, but it's not a space that's "ours" in the same sense that our apartment is "ours." The fact that we can lock the door, which is mainly for equipment-related reasons, goes a long way in accommodating our PTSD.

Thoughts? Go ahead, have at it.

Same thing here. I have read that it's not the light itself but it's the UV rays that we don't realize are hitting our eyes. So it doesn't appear bright at first, but you can barely open your eyes because it's bright. However, the brightness isn't from the sunlight itself, it's from the UV rays. Also because clouds are made of water and the light bounces around in there and reflects off either into the atmosphere, or back onto earth. (something like that)

It is normal.
The eye changes its pupil to adjust to the light all the time, but some feelings will also change the pupil. depression will make the pupil too small, making it to be darker than normal. while fear and excitement will make the pupil larger than necessary, thereby making it brighter than normal,

This happens to me sometimes, but more often with sound for me (getting suddenly louder or farther away, or shifting from one ear to the other)...

It took me a long time, but I finally figured out that, for me, it happens when an alter switches "co-presence" with me.

They can all be co-present with me at the same time, but with most in a more "backseat" position, where I don't feel as much of their "influence"... (But we are not co-conscious)

The "controls" (for lack of a better word) cause one alter to be in the "front seat" position with me at all times. In our system, each alter gets one hour, starting with the 1st alter at 1am, 2nd alter at 2am and so on, through 19 alters (15 people plus 4 parts of the brain/mind, like Hipppocampus is one and Super Ego is another). Then it all starts over again at 1am the next night. NOTE: they do not "choose" to be in the front seat at these times... the main controls simply "make" it happen.

At other times they get Triggered into the "front seat" position, and usually MANY of them get triggered at a time, so that I become very "front-jumbled."

When they get put into the front seat with me, it sort of "blends" their consciousness with mine. This is also why I have SUCH INCONSISTENT MEMORY! Something that just happened earlier today, when a different alter was "close" with me, I may not remember later in the day., or the next day... until I'm at the same "hour of the day" when whoever knows that fact or that person's name is close with me again ~ then I totally remember it and can't understand why I didn't know it before!

P.S. I totally recommend google-searching the words in bold-print above ~ or search "DID MPD glossary of terms" ~ I learned and figured out a LOT when I started educating myself on DID terminology and definitions, etc.
