Famous writers, artists having SPD ?

Postby tzinam » Sun May 19, 2013 4:51 am

Hi !

I am new here, and not sure to have schizoid personality disorder, but I think I correspond to a lot of its criteria.
I discovered the existence of that disorder about one year ago, when I decided to figure out what made me so different from others.
I then started to search for movies about characters supposed to have that disorder.

Now I would like to find writers who are supposed to be (or to have been) schizoid, or any kind of artist having SPD, and who create things in relation with that disorder.

In fact I wonder if such people could ever be famous, as they are supposed to have few social relations.

Hope you can give me some names, and excuse my clumsy English.

I'm sure there must be lots (okay, maybe not really "lots") of famous schizoid writers. Probably not many famous ones alive, though. But I wouldn't know any names. I rarely have any patience for written fiction or long treatises on philosophy.

I think it's pretty much accepted that Franz Kafka was schizoid.

emily dickinson might have been one, too.

to be honest, i would imagine that most spd's would avoid fame like the plague.

Thanks for your answers.

The writings of Kafka do not seem to be directly related to SPD.
I don't know the poems of Emily Dickinson, I think I'll have a look.

I quite agree with that, although I feel inside me a need to tell others, by means of writing some fiction, what it feels to be like me.
The major issue is I am not a good writer, and because I am what I am, I have no way to make my writings famous or at least known by people.

And I thought maybe there was at least someone who managed to make it a lot better than I ever could.

Oh, you're looking specifically for artistic or literary works illustrating SPD from a personal point of view? In this case, you might find it interesting to read [Henri-Frédéric Amiel]'s personal journal. It's no masterpiece, and it's not exactly about SPD, but it's close enough (it may even be what you're actually looking for). His journal was the origin of the word and even the very concept of [depersonalization].

"I find myself regarding existence as though from beyond the tomb, from another world; all is strange to me; I am, as it were, outside my own body and individuality; I am depersonalized, detached, cut adrift. Is this madness?"
