Well as dbx pointed out using large amounts of anything can be detrimental to ones health, so cannabis cannot be singled out in this area.
Also, on schizophrenia and marijuana, the link is virtually non-existent. Those studies were completely biased and inaccurate. It did not measure long term cannabis use. If for instance, a person had smoked a single joint at the age of 15 and then developed schizophrenia at the age of 47, well then the illness was blamed on the marijuana.
Its a proven fact that people suffering from mental instability are prone to abusing drugs and risk taking behavior. So, it is not Smoking the drug which causes the problem, it is the problem which causes the smoking of the drug.
