Flashback? Blimey that is going back a few years! If recall correctly, it had some very impressive animation for it's day.
Anyway there is one game in particular that stands out in meeting your criteria. A toturously difficult experience, also on the megadrive, entitled "The Immortal". If it doesn't ring any bells, the basic premise was negotiating an abysmally trecherous, isometric dungeon with a Gandalf type mage. It was absolutely laden with booby traps that resulted in instant kills and when you weren't being electrocuted or devoured by subterranian wryms, that was usualy down to the fact that you were engaged in combat with a wandering monster (of which there were hundreds)!
The game ultimately proved two things to me - 1. It was far too hard forme to complete " 2. In making me scream to the extent it did, also that my voice had not properly broken.
