I'm Irish and am living in Ireland; and I like American country music. I am certainly not stupid. In fact, my college tells me that they have not encountered as good a student as me for the past 25 years.

I have only one answer for this topic-----country music. If I were foriegn and listened to the ignorant, egocentric, tone deaf ear that is called "country music" I would hate America.

I'm an American living in Italy and have gained a priveleged position of the insider view, with the opportunity of living amonst the outsider's.

I, too, have been surprised and disappointed at the leaders our 'people' seem to support, and the principles that seem to guide these choices and lifestyles.

But it's the gross generalizations and blanket judgments that continue to dumb down indivuduals and cultures.

The present administration shouldn't be given the power to define the limits and potential of a nation, its institutions or people.
The United States is a mixed bag of what is commendable and condemnable.

Growth, progress, improvement must come from idividuals.

Like Chucky, I consider myself to be of above average intelligence and education, and can appreciate, to an extent, country music, and even the people and the culture it represents. (Lyle Lovett, Willie Nelson... for a small start)

Why do lots of people hate America?
Well lets go through a list.
Iran- America overthrows their democrat government in the 50's (as Tormented soul stated. Then America aids Saddam with intelligence and weapons helping Iraq in its aggressive invasion kill thousands of Iranians and destroy their economy. Then America bit--es at Iran for wanting to develope nukes.
Iraq-America aids Saddam allowing him with Americas aid to kill thousands. Then after the First Gulf war we have to nerve to tell people to rebel against Saddam and that we will help them; then when they rebel we leave them to die. Then we attack Iraq again for imperalistic reasons
1) To switch Iraqs reserves back to US dollars
2) Get American companies rich off off rebuilding Iraq
etc etc
Afganastan- We arm a radical group to rebel the Soviets, then when the Soviets leave we leave Afganastan to rot in hell.
Veitnam, Cambodia, Lous- We bomb and keep alive a war for years destroying their economies and killing thousands. Simply because we hate communism.
Former Soviet Union-(Need i say more) After 60 years of hating each other, and after Bush has been bit--ing to them and being aggressive to them they are not going to have much love for America.
Cuba- Regardless of their govenrment we decide it will help to try to keep Cubans in poverty.
Venz- Wanted and supported a coup of Venz. democrat government in 2003ish.
Chile-Overthrew their democraticly elected government and helped instaled a brutal dictator that killed thousands.

The sh-- America did to all those countries Americas doen to dozens more; its not why do people hate America? Its why the f--- does America do the sh-- it does and have no clue?

Well, I don't dislike the US. I'm a fan of their culture(movies, music, etc...) and I believe americans are like everyone else in the world, just trying to be happy, but in a very different situation, as they live in the number one economy of the world.

I do dislike their foreign policy and consider many of their politicians speech as extremely dangerous on account of their extremety and sometimes, ignorance.

I think the curiosity the world has with the US is completely justifiable because more than any other country, their culture is known worldwide.

Don't worry, their foreign policy will improve once Obama or Clinton become President. McCain won't stand a chance if he continues to support the Iraq war. The American people simply don't want that war to continue.

It also felt like a bit of a kick in the teeth when George Bush Jnr. said that the Iraq war has succeeded recently. Does he not read the international news each day? Just today, there are anoth 43 people killed in Iraq. I think the average was about 20 dying each day last week due to violence. Many soldiers are still dying too. Of course, the biased media networks (Fox, Sky, CNN) don't report these killings anymore.

I hate america because:
-Theyre the only people stupid enough to not understand the metric system.
-They invade foreign lands and then claim they are the good guys.
-They are in an obecity epidemic, and yet they wish war upon 3rd world countries who struggle to obtain even water.
-They spew so much propaganda that the average american is totally ignorant of the outside world.
-I hate the way they talk.
-I hate their superiority complex.
-I hate 99% of the trash movies hollywood makes.
-They are responsible for Queen Latifah.
-I hate their political correctness bullcrap.
-I hate the way they all fully understand their political systems
-I hate the way the houses all look the same
-I hate the way the people all act the same
-I am sick of hearing about america
-I am extremely sick of hearing american music.

And finally, they are the only people who would create a Why do you hate America thread, and then defend it as though it was uncalled for.

To be fair, American music is pretty awful. The best music comes from the UK & Ireland, but I'm only saying that [perhaps] because I'm from Ireland. Also, the British don't understand the metric system either. THey tried to introduce it a few years ago but people still insist on speaking in miles, pounds, etc.

I think Americans are the way they are because they have everything they need within their borders. They have many different holiday destinations, many entertainment TV networks, diverse lands for food production... ...So, it is understandable why some Americans are so naive about the world and wouldn't be even able to tell me where my own country is.

In fact, when my brother was over there a few years ago, some Americans he spoke to thought that people in Ireland had no electricity and still all lived in rural areas. They also thought that the famine was still ongoing - the famine that occurred a few hundred years ago.

Isn't that so odd?- I've never heard of God is an Astronaut. I did used to have an enormous fascination with New Zealand though. When I was a few years younger, I used to look up houses for sale there because I was so sure that I would move there. Wellington was always gonna be the one for me.
