Actually, the only New Zealand city we generally hear about here is Auckland. I understand it's the largest city but it's not actually the capital, right? Wellington sounds nice, at least. I mean, it's surrounded by hills and is right on a calm straight between the north and south islands, right?

Aukland is a terrible city full of terrible people. 'Bleak' is the word that comes to mind. Wellington is, as friedpiper said, a 'hole' like most national capitals in the world. I believe the number of politicians and public servants have a negative and destabilising effect on the sociosphere.

That being said NZ is a beautiful country. The cities I most liked were Christchurch, Dunedin, and Queenstown. All three are beautiful though the people get worse in each as you progress in order along the list. In general the NZ north Island is boring, and full of pricks. The south island is much more colourful in both sceneries and personalities. The only thing I like about the North Island, and even purely for it's absurdity, is rotorua- the stinkhole which became a town.

I'm pretty sure my brother's friend visited Rotorua when he lived in NZ. I remember hearing about some 'smelly town' from him. So, I'm thinking that it must have been Rotorua that he was in.

I could be equally as critical of my own country - perhaps even more critical - but I will forgo the pleasure of it.

Honestly I don't know so much about the people living in Auckland. The kiwis from Auckland are the ones I find to be uniformly nasty. Maybe they were chased out

The intended meaning was that my experience lies only with Aucklanders not living in Auckland ('from'), thus the humourous supposition that they may have been exiled by the other native Aucklanders.

To be honest guys, ye are taking this far too seriously. Obviously everyone from Auckland isn't nasty. You would have to be the stupidest person in the world to make such generalisations. In any one city, there are evil people, beautiful people, ugly people, smart people, dumb people, etc, etc.
