Mine was never physically violent, but he definitely had a couple of those "seeing red" temper tantrums.

I could be wrong, but I suspect that pure HPD's tend not to be violent.

Given the large comborbidity between HPD and BPD, I suspect that many of the violent ones here are (on top of their HPD) either BPD or have very strong borderline traints.

Violent behaviour in BPD's is very common when they rage.

I don't think it's really a matter of having been taught that violence is ok. I think it's leaning more towards an excessive temper and a need for attention.. I wonder, would it be more like a desire to use violence to gain attention, or to use violence to prevent the attention from leaving?

It would make sense to have Bpd traits in there to account for the violence, probably going toward an 'I won't let you leave me' type of thing.. hm.. I can't really voice what I mean effectively. Bleh.

This is an interesting thread. I've seen much of this lately, including the only incident of violence. In my case the violence errupted due to my trying to control her threatening behavior by taking her car keys so that she couldn't go out and do what she was threatening to do. All hell broke loose over that.

My exHPD did show some violent traits, having one DV charged against her with her ex-boyfriend. She grew up in a rough neighborhood and fighting was common, so that might explain it.

Again, violence and anger are not HPD traits they are more borderline than anything else. However, since many cluster b's tend to borrow from each other it's not surprising that your HPD was violent.

Very interesting...My sister-in-law hit just about every single trait of HPD. But now reading this, maybe I need to look into BPD as well. She flies into violent rages if anyone dares to contradict her (well even if they aren't but she perceives them to be) and I just found out recently from my brother's best friend that she beats him as well :(

Mine had one incident when she demanded I take the baby to the hospital right now, and when I declined, lost it, took the baby and then smacked his head against the door frame as she was putting him in the car. Its kind of incidental.
