Meeting Adult Version of Child Before mt'g Child

Postby Sotrsab » Tue Sep 25, 2012 3:49 am

Is it possible to meet the adult version of a child alter before meeting the child alter?

I'd say, if it's happened - then yes! That's the thing with DID - if it's happening to you, it's possible.

But yeah - there are several things that comes to mind that it could be:
It's two alters that are "the same" but at different ages.
It's the same alter but (s)he doesn't have a set age and will go between being a child and an adult.
etc.

Or it could be something completely different.

I'm glad you've met a/some alter(s) no matter what, that's always a step forward :)

Sure. It is common for child alters to be guarded by protector alters.

Something like that happened to us recently. Pegasus told us she was the "younger" version of Lion. But Lion split off of her somehow? Like it was the same alter, but now they have evolved to be different from each other, but still similar?
Hosts: Owl, Swan, Sparrow
Protectors: Wolf, Bear, Lion
Inkeeper: Bunny
Littles: Kitty (7), Margot (14) Pegasus (13), Noah (10)
Other: Boaz, Ezra, Fox, Broken

Thanks for the responses. I don't know why, but I'll post something & then forget that I did so I don't go back & check for responses. It doesn't mean I'm ungrateful, just forgetful. I'll try to get into the habbit of viewing "my posts" so I can see the responses and be appreciative.

Might not be helpful but thought I'd say some of have the same problem. What we do is that we subscribe to our own threads, without subscribing to any others, so we at least answer if someone answers our questions. For the other posts we try to keep an eye on the threads with a star on them (meaning we've written in them) if they turn red (saying someone's updated it). So yeah, that's what we do at least.. Best of luck going forward.

I think the order of meeting alters is different for everyone, so anybody arriving in any order is possible.

The whole issue of one alter being an adult version of a younger alter, or vice versa, is interesting. No doubt, there are connections between alters that can be virtually anything. There does seem to be pairing in many systems, with poles like good/bad, adult/child, male/female, etc. There are some systems where there are triplets or even larger sets of parallel alters.

My own 'family tree' is not linear and probably nobody else's is either. Many alters "branched off" from alters who weren't me, but most alters tend to be connected to me, the host who arrived in the body at age 2.5. There is one young alter, Carter, who felt so much like me (the John alter), me as youngish, that I didn't recognize him as a separate alter, despite the fact that he had come into the body a few times during emotional overwhelms or while journaling. My assumption was that I had reverted to my younger self rather than that he was a different alter. When anyone else has taken over, each has distinctly felt to be "not me." Still, he isn't a young version of me as an alter, in fact, I predate his arrival at age 3. But he feels more "me" than anyone else, he certainly feels familiar. My guess about the reason is that he remained nearby and influenced me throughout life rather than that he went into hibernation.
