How do you deal with medical situations? *possible trigger*

Postby Gwenii » Fri Mar 16, 2012 4:43 am

So.... I have an appointment with a gynecologist, that I really and I cant stress this enough, really don't want to go to. My fiancee, caecandy says that I should let someone else do it, and she is probably right. I just don't know who can handle it without punching him. Almost all of the boys would punch him and well, so would Tyra. The littles are, of course, out of the question. Everyone who is volunteering would be people who, we all know would not handle the situation well.

What do you guys do in medical situations?

Personally I don't deal with it well.

Some things you can do to help include writing a note to the doctor telling them that you are uncomfortable with the situation and mentioning that it's because of abuse so that they might be more considerate and gentle with you during the situation. And take your fiancee or a friend to be a support person to help you and to help ground and distract you. Maybe also write a list to take with you of grounding techniques that help you to stay in the present and not switch to someone reminded of the abuse.

Mostly someone else deals with it - our co-host is trauma-free and so she's quite good at dealing with stuff that we would otherwise be triggered by; but we did have a little come out once during a gynae exam and it really didn't go so well unfortunately.

Sorry, but we cannot concentrate long enough to read really long replies or threads so don't think we're being rude if we don't.

I just completely shut down to the point that I can't even speak. The only "person" out is an empty shell. Sometimes it helps to find the ugliest picture on the wall and just start making up a story about what in the world the artist was ever thinking, what might that person's life be like to make such an ugly picture? Why did they ever buy the picture? Maybe the artist is blind and couldn't see what they were painting? It must be hard to be a blind painter. What a life, huh? And on, and on, and on, and on until it's time to go.

I have ANP's that deal with that sort of thing. They don't care about much of anything and certainly not that. They are numb - hypoaroused. They deal with the world and do what has to be done.

***Triggering - contains defined roles***
This is one benefit of having DID, rather DDNOS-1. Those with DDNOS-1 have only 1 ANP and either that one can numb things or it can't. With DID you have 2 or more ANP and they take on jobs that others cannot do, and we make more if needed. One of them can always do whatever needs to be done.

Reason: added trigger warning

Please remember that the guidlines still apply in this forum tylas. People can find this type of generalisation of triggering.

We are accepting here of all people and the way that their system works, regardless of if it fits into a pre-defined role or not. Please remember to mark generalisations such as this with a trigger warning (specifying pre-defined roles) so that people triggered by remarks such as this are able to avoid it for their own well-being. Otherwise people may feel left out or uncomfortable or confused or not normal if they don't fit the particular theory of the pre-defined roles you are describing. It may also be unhealthy for people to read this type theory about pre-defined roles if they start to then search for their parts to fit with the pre-defined theory, rather than learning about and accepting their own system first and then looking at whether they fit a theory or not. These are the reasons why this needs a trigger warning, as do some of your other posts recently too.

It's good to have those moments of it clicking and getting excited. :D I know you didn't mean any harm and will remember about the trigger warning in future now I've reminded you. :D
