IMPORTANT: New Guidelines

Postby canolime » Sat Jul 30, 2011 3:53 pm

The mods of this board have decided to put some new guidelines in place. Hopefully, this will help ease some of the tension.

Just like you should add a trigger warning to threads that contain talk of abuse, religion, drug use etc., please also add a trigger warning when posting a thread about roles (like ANPs & EPs) or articles of that nature.

For example:
*Triggering - contains defined roles*

If you have a problem with anything discussed on the forum, feel free to send a PM to salted lipstick.

- Regards, from the moderating team.

An additional note on the reasons behind this important guideline:

We are accepting here of all people and the way that their system works, regardless of if it fits into a pre-defined role or not. Please remember to mark generalisations such with a trigger warning (specifying pre-defined roles) so that people triggered by remarks such as this are able to avoid it for their own well-being. Otherwise people may feel left out or uncomfortable or confused or not normal if they don't fit the particular theory of the pre-defined roles you are describing. It may also be unhealthy for people to read this type theory about pre-defined roles if they start to then search for their parts to fit with the pre-defined theory, rather than learning about and accepting their own system first and then looking at whether they fit a theory or not. These are the reasons why talk of pre-defined roles needs a trigger warning.

If you have any further questions about this guideline and the reasons for it, please feel free to PM me.
In a way, I am not defined by my dissociation. In a way, I am.

I've had a couple of questions asking for clarification of trigger warnings for pre-defined roles lately so here is my response:

It's like if you want to talk about some being protectors, some being "emotional parts" or "apparently normal parts", some being gatekeepers etc etc. that should have a trigger warning because some people's systems might not have those types of roles and so then some people feel like they are "not normal" DID people or get concerned that their system doesn't have that type of structured roles that they might feel bad if they read a post like that and feel like they don't fit in with the roles, that's why it needs a trigger warning...

I think it doesn't so much need a trigger warning if you are talking only about yourselves and the roles within your own system, it only really needs a trigger warning if you are discussing the concepts of roles more generally because then people can feel invalidated if their system doesn't fit that structure... But you can talk about yourselves and what roles you do if you want to without using a trigger warning as most people understand that you are not generalising those roles to try apply it to other members here also, only to apply to yourselves...

So put simply, if you are wondering whether your post needs a trigger warning, ask yourself if your post could be interpreted as if you are in some way asking or implying that the roles may be applicable to other members here? If could be interpreted in that way, your post needs a trigger warning.
In a way, I am not defined by my dissociation. In a way, I am.
