How do you / should you let littles know they are DID?

Here's the Jist.

There's this little, Peter I never met him before but last week the T asked me to find him and work with him because Grace wont (she is afraid of him) and he is very confused.

Peter - thinks it is 1998
- knows he is not at the home he remembers
- thinks he has got lost/been forgotten on a holiday and is staying with me until his parents find him.
- does not realize we share the same body
- has major issues (due to ritualistic abuse) about gender
- is a sweet funny kid who is enjoying being able to play without having to worry about old men turning up to "put their sins in" him (rape)
- drew a really sweet picture of him sitting on my shoulders and said it was a pitty I was a girl and he would pray every day the fires of hell wont burn me too much because if I had been a boy I would have a stack of crowns a bazilion feet high and the softest cloud in heaven for being so nice.

My main worry is if he discovers he is in a woman's body he could self harm.

At the moment I let him sit up front with me and watch the outside world when it is safe to do so. If we are alone and have a while before company is expected I let him take over. When he needs to become subconscious again I tell him it is bed time and he drifts off.

Thing is there are going to be questions. And I don't know what to do when they come. At some point he is going to start wondering why he can't see me and why the only (external) person to call him by his name is the Therapist.

Hi,

You are taking really good care of Peter and that's the most important thing. It's super healing for Adults to take care of us when nobody else did. I hope Peter decides to live with you. Your T needs to be helping here.

When they say 'be yourself',
which one do they mean?

There's a book called "Dear Little Ones" by Jade Miller, that is written specifically for littles in a DID system... we read it alot. When new littles are discovered, and sometimes just to sorta remind everyone, like a refresher.

But we agree with birdsong, with the situation you described its probably best to do this with your T.
