How to share skills between parts?

Postby fireheart » Thu Nov 29, 2018 12:57 pm

I want to help a part who is stuck in trauma time and unable to correctly interpret social cues (e.g. read facial expressions, read between the lines). She also interprets neutral interaction as hostile. Other parts don't have these issues nearly as much.

How do I go about transferring knowledge in the system to a dissociated part (who currently does not have access to these skills)?

Ideas and stories are welcome. :)

In our system Delilah has always been in contact with 3 of the 5 parts. Including the ability to co-conscious with anyone.

So when Lilly (5.5 yrs old) started coming out more, Delilah would co-con with her, in order to keep an eye on her and to help her do things that she wanted or needed to do. This includes appropriate responses to my children if they interact with Lilly while she is out.

Also, In my system, both Delilah and Val have the ability to show the others memories and help integrate those memories and make them accessible to everyone. We haven't tried that with skills yet.

It honestly sounds to me that for your part, it may be more of a teaching. Children need to be TAUGHT social skills. They need to be TAUGHT about what is acceptable behavior. If you have an inside helper, perhaps this is something that person can work on with the part in question.

I read your post and all we thought was 'practice practice practice!'. Repetition of similar situations really helps, especially in places where it is safe to do so. By this I mean situations that are known and familiar. At least then there is less to worry about.

Good luck with it all!
