Anyone else? first names

Postby firelamb67 » Wed Aug 27, 2014 12:57 am

I'm sooo excited, I got a name from one of my alters for the 1st time.

I'm so happy! :D Her name is Alex and she's 10.

Am I srtrange or was anyone else excited to get a name?

I also got Joanne, likes to be called Jo, she came to me earlier today.

Does it hold significance that they've started telling me their names?
I'm just happy. Amazed.

Yes, getting a name is good news. The big system all give names to Host when they meet her. Some want to change their name. But getting a name is a good thing. We do not give names. We stay hidden from living people. On here we can hide. Getting names is good. Congratulations on getting two names from alters.

Wow! I'm happy for you! This is important!

Figuring this stuff out is so confusing. Some of me come with names and some don't have names, so as we discover ourselves, we have to invent names. Interesting process!

Hi firelamb67,
My insiders, tended to introduce themselves to my T as well. Getting names , and approximate ages, can mean that you are making connections between the inner selves, and that IS good. It's a step towards co-consciousness, which is moving in the right direction. Being DID is a very difficult thing to deal with in therapy, so I'm glad yo seem to be moving in the right direction.....do you have any other co-consciousness with any other parts? My T (once I had a pretty good idea who was on the inside) would have us all sit at a long table (Visualization wise) and talk with each other...it was there that we began negotiations between the parts. Sounds like you are definitely moving in the right direction! :D

Well I think a few others saw how excited I was about getting names, 4 more came forward and gave me their names. Even the SI girl gave me her name. I wrote them all down but couldn't remember 2. I feel bad about that, I kept asking them to come back and tell me but wouldn't. Still excited though, and confused as to what to do next. Some said they're ready for a new job. I had been telling them that they didn't have to keep the pain anymore and could have different jobs now. EMDR has helped with that. More work to do but I am glad to do it. Specially now that I have names. :D

Getting excited from knowing the name of one of your alters doesn't sound weird or strange to me.
Name sharing is a form of trust. I wouldn't tell people I don't trust my name, would you?
So, yeah, that is a good thing. :D

We relate to that. unfortunately were currently in some waiting room or something regarding communication, its delayed, muddy, but we get what you mean. Its like an final recognition, an knowing its right Finding an long lost friend We also get excited when we find out and know it to be true. when littles come forward, are found, its almost an general rule, as they can be very happy, excited and jumpy and occupy our head  :P Some of us have an strong energy.
Also, when you find out more, there can be an stream of others making themselves known/introducing/giving names, like they perceive it as somewhat safe, or seeing the other doing it, and they were there all along, hiding, lurking, whatever they were doing, like its time. can be pretty confusing tho all those people

We get what you mean, and those moments are mostly great :D

You are so right! After alex gave me her name, I had several come to me with their names. I have Kenzie (5 yr old), Jessie (SI girl), Richard (protector/persecutor), Josh (angry), Jason (new, seems laid back), I keep hearing Charlie but not sure who is trying to tell me, he/she wont come foward to let me know. Charlie is new. I got a little overwhelmed with all the new names. It's going to take some time to get to know them all.

I keep hearing Chaz too but I think it's Charlie wanting to be called Chaz. I'm not fond of the name Chaz and would like to make a compromise and let me call him/her Charlie and everyone else can call him/her Chaz. But he/she wont talk to me about it. I think it's fair.

Is it wrong of me to do that?

Hello.
No, it isn't wrong of you to do that (think that) per say, you simply have a different opinion than Charlie/Chaz does.
However, if your alter has a name he/she is not comfortable having, then perhaps it's not nice to insist calling him/her that.
A name is supposed to define you (or so I'm told) and as such, shouldn't it be a name of your own choosing?

For instance, Sirpa had a hard time recalling my name and kept calling me "Cassidy".
She asked me if I could change my name so it would be easier for her to remember.
I've always had my name, wasn't too fond of Cassidy and so didn't want to change it, not even for the sake of her forgetfulness.
Sirpa accepted that and made more of an effort to remember what to call me.

So, really, it's a matter of mutual respect, I think.

The best (if not the only thing) you can do is to communicate with your alter,
make him/her see your point of view, but not be too "intolerant" to listen to their opinions
and take their feelings in consideration.

It's easy to forget sometimes that I'm not the only one there who's feelings can be hurt without a meaning to.

I wish you the best of luck, though. :)
