DID In Movies, Books, Etc

Postby Mr. Bates » Thu Apr 13, 2006 7:04 pm

I'm bored, and this topic seems like a good idea right about now. Lets see, one of my most favorite movies oddly enough happens to be about a guy with DID, I'm sure you've all heard of it, "Fight Club". And yes it is based on a book, that I'm gonna get into when I find time. Definitely one of the most amazing movies I've ever seen. Some people go off about it changing their perspective on life and such. This movie just proved there are other people out there with almost the same view and ideas as I do. The DID part really isn't that important, aside from tying everything together at the end. Uh lets see, what else? A comic called "Othello". No, not like the Shakespeare play, more like the board game, the whole idea of two sides to everything. Very cool comic, and only 7 volumes long. Clock Tower II for the Playstation 1. The main character, Alyssa, is multiple. I'll let you take a guess at what her alter's name is :D . The game is really hard to find (and play), but its a fairly decent game. One more, and thats all I have. In the anime "Paranoia Agent", one of the characters has DID. Very cool show, though the multiple girl really doesn't have a key role, though she does have an episode about her. My most favorite episode, of course. :P And thats all I have. List off any of your own examples.
Portrayal of DID:
Fight Club: Very accurate, but done in a very artistic (and confusing) style
Othello: Fairly accurate, a little exaggerated for the comic's sake
Clock Tower II: A little flashy in animations and such, but pretty dead-on
Paranoia Agent: I'd like to think dead-on. You can judge for yourself though.

THe new Xmen movie!
So what is the "me"?
My brain I suppose.
Because I have sort of a voice in my head, the part of me that thinks, that feels, that is aware that I exist at all.

Killer7 is a very cool (and very weird) game. I have the US version, got it for Christmas. As cool as it is, Killer7 is a horrid portrayal of DID, but there is an actual reason for it. Which, being the badass detective that I am, had the story figured out for the most part fairly early on in the game.

:D And yes, Lark, points for crediting the new X-Men with Jean/Phoenix.

I had no idea Clock Tower 2 was about a multiple, more incentive to get the game ^.^

Another great game is Prince of Persia- The Two Thrones. The lead character develops a dual personality and the two actually speak to one another throughout the game. I really enjoyed playing this one.

Two of my favorite movies are Secret Window and Identity. That's all I can think of right now.

Heh, I gotta ask. How and why did you buy the import version? Then again, its not that hard to figure out, use the scan button to reveal the monsters, shoot the golden spot for an instant kill. Solve some puzzles, use some keys, collect all the soul bullets in the level to go through the doors in the room that looks like a club, fight a boss, the end. Seriously, that literally is every level. I don't know about the Playstation 2 version, but the GameCube, you use all of two buttons to really do anything.

And CBeth, I hope you're not thinking of Clock Tower 3 on the Playstation 2, cuz I'm referring to CT2 on the Plastation 1, which is bitch to find in stores. I just happen to stumble upon a copy on one lucky day while searching for it, being a fan of the original game on the SNES. If you do find it, give it a shot, though its an extreme pain in the ass, and you really have to have a thing for point-and-click games otherwise, you'll hate it. :P

I've seen CT3 at the store, but I knew you were talking about the 2nd. ;) If it's as hard to find as Fatal Frame 1, it'll take some searching lol. But good games are always worth it.
