(To Wronglesson/Jo, no offense, Miranda):
This, I've heard of before, and the twins, L.C. and Luna, have played around with other "possibilities" before (usually while "tripping" on LSD). The twins are well aware that DID is real and that it's the explanation for everything, but they still find it fun/interesting to explore other ideas. I thought it might be interesting to you if I shared some of them with you, Wronglesson/Jo.
Here's the ideas they've had before, some are similar to the things shared in the "Oddball theories" thread. **Possible Trigger Warning, mentions of religion and aliens**
(Please keep in mind that we do not believe any of these ideas, the twins just find them interesting to think on, but we all know that DID is the true explanation and the only one that does explain everything).
-- Alters are spirits or demons (depending on the alter), except they are not exactly possessing a person. They're the person's own spirits/demons, representing what's inside the person, if that makes sense. (I don't really know how else to put it).
-- For those that aren't familiar with Buddhism, "The Egg" theory, and reincarnation, basically what these ideas say is that the world is like an egg, and people are growing and developing as a whole to eventually become like God. (Since God made this world for us to live/grow and all that stuff). It also says that everyone is the same person, just at different times/timelines (kinda like how with time machines you can go back and have the possibility of running into yourself, except with this, "ourselves" are everyone else that we see around us). When you die, you become reincarnated into another person, and that person might remember the things you've learned and it may help them, or they may not remember the things you've learned (so basically like a past life type of thing). Once you've lived out all the lives of everyone in the world, you will live out life as either Buddha or the Dahli Llama or both (can't remember which, and I know one's before the other as far as order goes, but can't remember that either). Then, that's considered the "last life" to live, and after that we/the world will "hatch" and we will have finished our development into a being more similar to God.
With DID, it can be thought that we are the people that remember our past lives, are aware of those that have reincarnated into us (our alters), and can remember (over time) things we've learned/experienced in our "past lives".
-- Alters are either angels or demons, depending on the alter, either trying to help lead you down God's path or trying to distract you from God's path and lead you closer to the devil.
-- Alters are the "white man's" version of spirit guides/animals (no offense meant!). (L.C. and Luna can be rather "big" on our Native American heritage).
-- Alters are aliens or spirits of aliens that are attempting to enlighten and teach those that seem to have an "open mind"/that show intelligence compared to others/other "choices".
-- Alters are from other dimensions, and for some reason, our dimensions clashed and they've become mostly "stuck" with us, or their abilities to travel between dimensions is limited (hence why they're with us), or they'd rather stay here.
Hope that helps give you an ideas of other "ideas". (Stay strong with what you know, though. DID is the only one that explains not only the alters, but the symptoms, the developments, the experiences, etc. DID explains the hows/whys/whats/wheres/whens, and it fits with what we know about brain development, human development, personality development, etc. These "theories" don't explain everything nearly as well and they don't fit with actual scientific facts that we know to be true).
