My brother won't stop lying! advice please

My brother is a compulsive liar.
He is 31 years old now and he's been lying since childhood. He lies about anything and everything.
It has gotten so bad that I don't think I can have a normal conversation with him where he doesn't lie at least once.
When I confront him about his lying he becomes extremely defensive and hurtfull towards me. Even when I have proof that he has lied he just lies about lying.
He has lost numerous friends and made alot of enemies because of his lying.
He is my brother and I don't want to write him off, but I don't know what else to do.

My sister recently confronted me about my lying. She even gave me the chance to come clean about a huge lie before she told me she knew the truth. It really broke her heart. When I broke down and confessed, she told me that she really didn't know who I was, but that she loved me. I had been lying for so long. I don't think I've ever felt so low. But, it has been a start for me. I have been confronting my lies slowly, but have a fair ways to go.

Without a clean slate and admitting that you have a problem with lying I really don't know if anything will change.

I think that you need to tell him how much his lies hurt you, and that it is only because you love him that you want to help. Also, reassurance that you will be there for him no matter what will help. I have lied about huge things to everyone, I thought no one would ever forgive me, and am unsure what will still happen. I still have a family and a sister, thankfully.
