Relationship With Aspies?

Postby SmileXx » Wed Sep 14, 2011 6:39 pm

There is a thread in the Aspie forum that correlates a lot of BPDers with Aspies.
(It can be found HERE.)
Thus, it was the idea of another mod, that we take a poll.

Have you had a relationship with an Aspie?
Was it romantic?
How did it go?

Am one, ask me anything lol and I'm in a LTR (10 years next year). It's romantic, but I have to "warm" up to it.... it's complicated. I also have other intimacy issues, so may not be the best person on perspective into this,.

Another aspie here.
I've only met one girl that was diagnosed with BPD. She seemed zany, and didn't have much of a filter. For some reason, I found these to be really attractive qualities. I only knew her from an online game, but she became one of my favorite people.

I suppose "opposites attract" is the idea here. I'd like to know how well it would work too. Maybe I'll spend some time here on the BPD forums.

Often i hear people say that, but that's not possible. The 2 disorders have a completely different neurological/genetical origin and some core symptoms not in common.

The problem arises from the rather messy Diagnostic Criteria which overlap symptoms to a degree it's hard to make out the difference at times. If you read more disorders you'll find that about half of them will fit you in one way or another.

But really, you can not have both. If any disorder is close to AS it is Schizophrenia as they share the biological origin and practically the whole spectrum of symptoms. One might say Schizophrenia starts where AS stops.

One of my brothers has aspergers, we've gotten on well our whole lives. But then I get along well with all my siblings. My brother has often been a bit of a stabiliser in my life, brings me back to earth a bit.

I'm diagnosed with BPD, but also have quite a few of the traits of Aspergers - no where near enough to be diagnosed with it, and missing a few of the major ones, but enough that a few people (who have grown up with Aspies, but not psychs) have thought I had it. Perhaps you're the flip of that? Aspie with some BPD traits, but not enough to really be diagnosed?
