Problems Reading

Postby candyr2911 » Mon May 28, 2012 5:29 pm

Hi

I wanted to find out if anyone else has this problem... and basically is this just a problem or is a DID thing. Often when I read words, for example on a poster, I will see some of the words as different words. It won't make sense. Sometimes I have to reread it up to 3 or 4 times for me to be able to read the words that 'really are' there instead of 'imaginary' words. I hope that made sense. This just keeps happening more and more as the DID comes out more.

Ha ha...Yes!
That, and also when I was studying various foreign languages, I would read english even though it was really french/spanish. I thought it was a symptom of fluency, but IDK.

If I read something that is triggering, those words are blurry but everything else is fine, I just cannot read it without alot of effort.

Also, it takes awhile to read due to re-reading, then feelings like I never read it, and have to read it again(and again).

Also sometimes the words on the page vibrate(kinda like that movie butterfly effect, but only the page) so it takes a bit longer to read.

I did have a bit where my parts would come forward and ask what's that?(etc.) while I was reading and I yelled at them(internally) to stop as I spent most of my time answering their questions on the text rather than actually reading. They did cut it out but now I miss all their comments. :x so mad at myself.

Phew! ok i'm glad it's not just me! I have been moaned at since I was tiny in school that I don't read properly - I started to think I had ADD years ago because I can do numerous upon numerous things at one time and I read all over the place and can't concentrate on one line at a time when i read. Even my clients moan at me because I often miss sentences. It's so frustrating - it's like I read the whole message and I am 100% certain I have read everything - but only to find out that there were suddenly new words and sentences in the paragraph that just 'magically' appeared. I thought I was losing it!

When I accidentally joked about this with T, she said it's not ADD, it's DID. I just laughed. As complicated and complex as DID can get, I'm just glad parts of my life are starting to make sense. I am also really grateful that there is a website like this because now I've confirmed soooo many things in my life as well as learnt more things.

Yes, so annoying! I was dx as adhd as a child as well, but seem to have "grown out" of it, which makes me doubt the authenticity of that(and some of my other) dxs.

That's cool how you have a supportive T.

I do like how DID wraps things up in a neat bundle as well. Nice to meet another complex reader! :D

It's great to meet you too :D I am so grateful to meet other people who I can talk to about DID and especially more so, have shared similar experiences. Suddenly "weird" isn't so "weird" anymore. 8)

Yes I absolutely love our T. We are always so scared of people because of rejection and abandonment. We have had so many traumas and issues growing up and still face a lot of them today. When I first met T, as always, we would have a wall up not wanting to trust. But when we left, I felt so happy after seeing her. I KNEW she was safe to talk to - which is rare because we usually automatically put people at huge distance until they finally win us over.

I somehow feel that the little ones are becoming trusting of T - they tell me she seems really nice and they want to play with the toys she has at her office because she says they can. She has toys and they can play and she's nice - how wrong does that sound to a kid? Not at all. Any kid would want that. Our T makes us feel very safe. So far the only objection from my protector is that she doesn't think we need help and she doesn't want to talk about issues.

None of the littlies have come out fully with T yet but so we'll see the protectors response when they want to - perhaps that could be why when I get the notion of wanting to switch, I don't completely switch but merely become co-conscious with all of them at the same time when I am with T (which is very tyring!!) In general I am trying to become more co-conscious for now so I can see that the littlies are ok when they are out. But the older ones switch whenever I am unaware because I see the odd signs. Although I think the numerous bruises that keep appearing on my legs every few days would probably be from a little one.

Re: Problems Reading

Postby Johnny-Jack » Mon May 28, 2012 11:16 pm

I have had random problems with reading comprehension in adulthood. Because much of the time my abilities are at the level of academia, I haven't suspected a condition like dyslexia. It was just an annoyance that I attributed to lack of focus or something.

I suspect this has been the intermittent presence of young alters, notably Little John. Not only do littles nearby make reading comprehension difficult, and sometimes fairly suddenly, they've made some conversations difficult to carry on when they're near the front. Their presence can definitely affect my intellect. While they're co-present, I can read any complex word and know that I know what it means, but I can't remained "focused" enough to digest whole sentences, let alone the flow of the argument. Very frustrating! No wonder because half of my consciousness is attempting to construct the flow of logic while the other half is going "huh?" Fiction, especially told with vivid images, are easier to follow for obvious reasons.

Oddly when the baby is around there are fewer problems because he doesn't see printed or spoken words as meaningful so his presence doesn't mess with the word meanings themselves. But I can lose interest and want to go look at something pretty. It's such a relief to learn what all this has been about.

My littles are still a bit scared of talking to the T but they're starting to talk aloud to us now and that's the right direction at least.

The co-presence of Ashar, who is in effect a feral child without language, is so profound I'm barely able to function, only walk. I've taken to writing out my check to the T before a session because I fear he'll be there at the end again and I'll be unable to write or talk or explain what's happening.

Re: Problems Reading

I don't know if I have anyone in my system that is younger than 3yr. I haven't discovered them yet but then again, I've only known that I have DID for 4 months now. Although I did suspect I did at the end of last year but it was never confirmed.

My little ones are extremely shy. With me they are ok, some are still very quiet but my 3yr old can talk your ear off! I think she is the one that is making me ever so anxious to see our T on thursday. Even though she has only become co-conscious with me with T, she seems to be liking T a whole lot and seems to be developing a sort of attachment - which is driving me nuts because I hate that feeling and at the same time I'm scared that she gets hurt. As it is now I have to ask T if she can play with T's toys and i must print pictures of all our animals at home so we can show T and the list goes on. She's ever so excited.

Protector is not so sure about this whole thing but she hasn't made any dominant objections to going to T. She is very weary though.

It must be quiet something to have to make sure everyone is ok though, especially if you have a lot of little ones in your system that want attention. My little one keeps moaning that she wants mommy for over a week but I can't let her out around my mom. My little one would end up getting hurt. It makes me so sad that she's so tiny and can't understand why she can't go to her mommy :(
