Why alters stop aging?

Postby lifelongthing » Sat Apr 28, 2012 6:22 pm

This has probably been asked before and I'm sorry if it has but I'm not the best when it comes to searching.. I was wondering, what could make an alter stop aging that has previously been aging (while still continuing to come out)? It seems like one in our system was created when we were a very small child but didn't stop aging until she was a young teen or thereabout. I'm not entirely sure though because we don't know too much about her. But that's what it's pointing to.

In my system, these are the reasons I found in regards to age or aging:
-still stuck in trauma at that age and unaware of passage of time,
-time when part was out front the most, and identifies w/ that age most,
-created when young but aware of passage of time/events so aged with the body,
-healing reasons, like an older alter to be a positive parental figure,
-introject of parent

Have yours been able to give any insights onto their age?

Most of my alters stopped aging because they went into hibernation, that is, they stopped coming into the body or being active as inside helpers and went into a deep sleep. One stopped aging at age 19 for unknown reasons, maybe he just didn't want to age further and wasn't as active? Dan aged six years during the period where he was a deceased alter or, rather, during which he thought he was deceased.

I'm not sure there is always an identifiable logic to how and why alters do or don't age.

Most have stayed the age they were at the time they were made, which is why this one was a bit of a puzzle.

Little & 18 y/o: stayed the same age as initial trauma/when they were made and haven't tried or can't age.
Lin: Tried to age but due to abuse it made sense to her to never be 13 (again) and stayed 12. When she tried aging to 13 two months ago **trigger warning** someone who knew us very well and knew she wanted to try to age abused her and then **trigger warning end** she decided to stay 12.
Leo: She was made when the body was 15 and was made to bring order and healing inside. She has subsequently mostly been inside the whole time so she's stayed 15.

As for the one in question now - we're not entirely sure why she would stop at the time she did. She's kept coming out but not as much and not for long at a time. If she's between 12-15 some place (which is what was suggested) - that was when Lin was hosting. So would it make sense that maybe she stopped because she wasn't fronting as much?

I'm not sure there is always an identifiable logic to how and why alters do or don't age.

Thank you. It kind of helps to know that we don't have to figure out everything and that everything doesn't actually have an identifiable logic to it.

I have often wondered the same thing!!!!! I have a part that is six years old, samantha. But intellectually the same age as the body, 23. She is emotionaly six but can drive, balance a check book and other things. I believe she is my main alter, meaning she is out the most.

But this topic is very intriguing to me. I have wondered the same thing and the suggestions are helpful as well as interesting.
