Inside alter getting a message to the outside!

Postby Patience » Mon Oct 28, 2013 9:25 pm

I am a support person. I was wondering if there was a way that alters can sneak out if they need to get an urgent message to someone on the outside, even if they are not in control. In other words, if someone on the inside feels they need to talk to someone, yet they are not the one in control, or perhaps they are SCARED of the one in control, how to they go about sneaking out to contact someone unbeknownst to the other alters, or do they have to be given permission?

I recently experienced something like this with my friend with DID, he needed to talk to me about something, but I can see he is not the one in control right now and cannot fully be with me at this time.

Anyone have any theories on how this works?

we have shy people who passively influence me (when I'm fronting) or even say words using my voice. They 'possess' body parts, lock down memories/thoughts ect until they can get their point across, and usually its subtle enough that no one outside notices it's not me doing these things.

Actually, yes you did. This was my next question, if they could talk through other alters. :D Though I probably wouldn't have remembered the term "passive influence." I had a long conversation with him and at some times it seemed like someone was using him to "speak though." This is definitely not the alter that took off. This was one who wanted to get a message to me, but I believe he is not strong enough to switch back yet.

It is also strange that different alters choose different modes of communications. Some hate to call on the phone and will only text. Others, need to call.

I have no theory to offer, but I can say this is a very, very common observation. It is called talking through and it can go both ways. Inside alters can talk through the host to other people and other people can talk though the host to inside alters.

Probably the best thread about this topic on the DID Forum is How do you to talk through the host to an insider? To find other threads about this, in your favorite web search engine use this search string:

Thanks, Una+. The sad thing is it appears that he has no recollection of the conversation now. I am not surprised, I've seen this before.

That is typical for someone with DID (as opposed to DDNOS-1). Often the host alter is amnestic for the actions and communications of other alters.

Was this conversation online? Sometimes, telling the host about the conversation enables the host and/or other alters to begin to break through the amnesia barriers into co-consciousness. Be gentle with him but continue to say that he has amnesia. "You don't remember telling me X, do you? I am not surprised. You are experiencing a lot of amnesia, dear." Be calm and matter of fact about it. This is a matter of fact, not open to argument or debate or refutation. Repeat this often. He may also have amnesia for conversations about his amnesia, or not. You might keep a written inventory. If he ever does get into therapy, this would be very helpful because it would give clues about triggers and the concerns and affects of his more active dissociated identities.

I have experienced this with someone I met years ago when he had a dissociative seizure in public. He is unable to remember anything about it, he does not even remember coming to on the floor beside a gurney, but he does remember meeting me and our later conversations about the event.

The conversation was over the phone, a pretty long one too. After that, it's like he "went dark" again, I haven't heard a peep. The one that came out wanted to tell me things, wanted to get messages to me, and now he's gone again. I don't know what else to say except it's so good to talk with him, and then he's gone again.
