I was wondering if other people's alters have different accents and also whether they can talk fluently. My youngest one, probably 8 -10 is quite slow at joining up words orally. My angry one speaks in a broad Liverpudlian accent - but I don't know why. Then my adult which I think is just me talks fluently, eloquently and with ease in my normal accent.

The two alters who front for my system have very different ways of speaking and are both fluent. I am the system host, have a deep male voice with a southern accent. The other alter is female. She spent a tremendous amount of time developing her own higher, distinctively female voice. She pronounces many words differently that I do and is often asked if she is from Britain.

Angel has a unique accent that is the combination of about nine or ten different accents. It's actually the accent that comes from speaking backwards English as your first language.

Most in here have a regular American accent, but a few of us have a southern accent of some sort. The Blonde has a mild one, while Alexa and I have thicker ones.

Accents are an interesting thing with alters, I think.

My main admin speaks in a English accent. Not sure what area but we know it's English.
My protector Barry American accent slips sometimes. He hates it because you can get a lot of attention for being American. Charlie has a German accent. We also have Salvador she speaks in a thick Russian accent.

Erm... we have a Southern American, a British, a Japanese, and I don't know what all else, probably 'cause those are the ones that have been out lately.

One of us doesn't understand much of what's going on with other people's conversations. One of us uses words she doesn't understand. And another of us knows that there's words for things but doesn't know them. The kid with the Japanese accent definitely does not talk fluently. Well, and then there's the kid who makes up words all the time.

I consider fluency to be any way of speaking that is entirely consistent. It could be a dialect or a style.

Adam: doesn't talk because he's a baby, doesn't seem to understand most words though when he was out once he was looking at things and the simple word flower and later bird were spoken inside, matching what he was looking at, so maybe he's just starting to gain language.

Ashár: doesn't have access to language but makes strange sounds that indicate he is trying to make human speech sounds

Edward : possibly mute

Tyler: Worcestershire (the county, not the steak sauce) English accent, fluency unknown

Jack: fluent Appalachian dialect; can fake standard American, but it sounds stiff

Dan: fluent sub-standard American dialect using what most people would label bad grammar, like Nah, he don't care nuthin about dat.

Quato: bad grammar like Dan sometimes but it feels forced

Jonathan: fluent formal American speech, uses few contractions and prefers multisyllabic words

We have two alters that speak English most of the time (it's not our first language), one that talks in Russian (?) accent, one that always stutters and one that isn't able to talk at all.
Also our voice goes from really deep to really high, depending on who's talking.
Most of us have their unique way of talking, but are also able to "copy" our hosts voice.

Sometimes the accent comes out, but mostly, my inner-narration sounds like an Aussie or New Zealander. Inner voice sounds more British when singing.
