For those of you who partake......

Postby priyamt273 » Tue May 26, 2015 1:27 pm

There are a couple of states here in the Pacific Northwest that recently legalized the recreational use of marijuana for adults. Our own little slice of Amsterdam, or something. (Minus the red-light districts). Personal beliefs regarding the legalization of such things aside, those of us with bpd who live here will be able to make a run to a dispensary of some kind (bar? cafe? hookah lounge?) and get sublimely blazed with nothing more than an ID.

So, for those of you who've "never inhaled", what's been your experience with the effects of pot versus your bpd symptoms/triggers?

I myself find the effects soothing, mostly because they downshift my brain's racing thoughts a notch or twelve. It wasn't always that way, of course. When I was younger I couldn't smoke pot at all because it invariably induced horrible panic attacks. That doesn't happen now, unless I inadvertently downshift a little too much. :)

Each winter, after I've been working a lot and then find a break during the holidays, I can smoke and relax…because I feel like I've earned it. But most other times it simply makes me anxious, so I usually avoid it. Whiskey is my drug of choice, though I understand that it's much more unhealthy an option.

I'm quite law abiding. I never smoked cigarettes even so when I went through a phase of wanting to try more I couldn't do it right. I did once have some kind of juice with cannabis in and thought it hadn't affected me, Until I suddenly burst into tears.

I have only smoked pot a few times and it never really did much for me or my symptoms tbh.

Like Danieleaf I tend to choose whiskey, which I find calms me down 95% of the time. But if the emotions manage to come out when I have whiskey then they tend to be worse...

Yeah, alcohol pretty much does the same thing to me. One successful trigger after a couple-few drinks can lead to a really unpleasant evening. I'm not much of a drinker these days, although I'm a whiskey fan as well.

For me there isnothing like some weed and some Lana del rey when i can't get someone out of my head. I have a tendancy to fixate so its good to just shut all that off.

Alcohol generally is a mixed bag. It can help numb things when im sad (especially wine) but if i have too much i get depressed and even more i get basically psychotic.

It helps me a lot with anger. Mellows me out. Makes me sleep like a baby too.

But if I smoke too much I get very paranoid. I had to stop for that reason.

Pot usually mellows me out. I am a bit on the high strung, wound up, go all the time type. So the mellowing aspect is great. To much and i get a lil anxious and paranoid, not terrible though. It also does one other thing to me, but i wont say that on here. I don't drink a whole lot and i have to be in the right mood or else it could get ugly fast.
Raisen cookies that look like chocolate chip cookies, are the biggest reason i have trust issues.

It helped me in the past but I would feel very depressed the next day, so it felt like it was just postponing my feelings and by the time I would feel them they would have rotted into nothing but sadness and self loathing. I still considered it better than a fit of rage though. Way I saw it was that the worst that would happen with the crash was some self harming and getting fired for not showing up to work. Worse that could happen with a fit of anger was like me getting physically aggressive and anything is better than that because that is the worst when I used to shove when I was really riled up because then I would feel like a monster.
