Buried in Treasure by David Tolin

I recommend the book Buried in Treasure by David Tolin for people who hoard & their friends & family. My biggest take-away is that if I want relief from my hoarding, I need to work for 30 minutes a day sorting & discarding. There’s no way around it. So I started sorting & discarding for 30 minutes today. It will take another 30 minutes to put everything away now, minimum. I had some feelings come up, but they didn’t kill me. I’ve been feeling stuck lately, so I think this will help. At least I will find things I’ve misplaced. 8)

I have a friend who has issues with hoarding and she has benefited from Flylady . I actually took away a few good habits myself , one of them being " Don't leave a room without taking something with you " . It's surprising how following that little bit of advice has helped keep my place tidier .

Hugs to you and well done on your progress ! Wars are won by a thousand little victories . :D

Hi NSR, :) I’ve also tried Flylady, but didn’t stick with it. :? She has helped a lot of people though.

I’m having success cleaning for 20 minutes, then taking a 10 minute break. The 10 minute break is crucial to build positive associations with cleaning. The 20 minutes is so you don’t burn out. Turns out I can accomplish a lot in 20 minutes if I’m focused.

I learned this from the book Unf*ck Your Habitat by Rachel Hoffman. She also has a website. I’m working on day 5 of her program, so we’ll see... :) One of the 2nd gen hoarders also read this book & is working a program of their own.

It’s a friggin’ miracle :D We’ll see if we stick with it though. :P
