https://www.selectivemutism.org/find-he ... fessional/The treatment approach at SMart Center is different than most other specialists (such as CMI, Thriving Minds, Kurtz, etc..). They do not focus on "brave talking" or talking at all really. They focus on making your child more comfortable in all settings. Relieving the anxiety and the communication will follow. The parent training is great and they teach you how to interact with your child in public settings, allowing them to communicate in a way they are comfortable and how to make progress in baby steps. This approach is working well for my daughter. I don't think she would have done well with the other approaches. It's not an immediate cure. It requires lots of hard work after you get home, but it's great knowing what to do and seeing progress finally. They also offer web conferencing for followups if you hit a plateau and need more help after the camp.
