Would Ace Ventura be considered a schizotypal?

Postby wolfgrave14 » Thu Dec 08, 2016 5:54 am

He's definitely eccentric and wacky. Even in his movies, people react to him if as if they're dealing with a crazy person. I honestly feel like he would be better pick for a movie example of schizotypal than Travis Bickle, IMO.
I have schizotypal personality disorder with antisocial and borderline features, PDD-NOS, ADHD, dysthymia, PTSD, depersonalization disorder, pica, eproctophilia and coprophilia.
I have quite a bit wrong with me..

Of course not. He's too socially functioning, too little socially withdrawn, too emotional, too apprehensive and not enough aloof. There's hardly anything about him that points to this personality disorder.

The eccentric behavior is what mainly classifies the schizotypal. Not the aloof behavior. Sure, it's one of the symptoms but it's not one of the major ones. That goes to the schizoid. I was told by one of my psychiatrists that schizotypals can actually be flamboyant.

I've been wondering whether the famous eccentric surrealist painter, Salvador Dali, was schizotypal.

Can't comment on Ace Ventura as I saw it years ago and can't remember it.

His diagnosis? I think a "bit" of histrionism but definitely not free from schizotypal traits.

Lol. I was told by someone on my schizotypal group that they think I'm both schizotypal and histrionic because people thought I was posting stuff to be trolling or to get attention. I'm sorry that I believe in real succubus and I like girl farts.
Anyways, I actually run sometimes like that guy at work.

I'm not a confirmed histrionic but I feel histrionic because I'm always in distress.
However, I feel like it's justified.
So I don't think it's fake or whatever I think it's real issues so then again maybe I'm not being over-dramatic.

True, but I guess it also apply to most Jim Carrey roles. We can also say he is a bit antisocial and narcissistic.

Truth is, Jim Carrey plays the same role on every movie. He is almost the same persona on Mask, Dumb and Dumber, Liar Liar, Ace Ventura, Me, Myself and Irene(evil side) and on whatever movie he is on.

By the way, all good comedians show traits of schizotypy.

Interesting is what Chris Bown has to say about being a comedian.

I mean, we always say ignorance is bliss. Well, if so, what's the opposite? Some form of misery. Being a comedian, 80 percent of the job is just you notice sh*t, which is a trait of schizophrenics too. You notice things people don't notice . . .

im not sure on ace ventura's condition / diagnosis, i did remember watching a video on him recently and his depression, for some reason, i remembered something related to bipolar in the video, but im not sure if he was manic depressive and / or something else like histrionic being mentioned here.

also, i would disagree on schizotypal being about eccentric behavior, i myself have been diagnosed with schizotypal pd and im not odd, eccentric or peculiar in any way. of course, i dont agree 100 percent with my diagnosis either so.. , however, there have been some case studies done on some people who actually had a diagnosis of schizotypal pd and they said they weren't odd or peculiar.
