Characteristics of Voices

When you hear voices, do you hear them in your ears, or inside of your head? I mean do you hear them as you would hear your own thoughts (but on a different channel in a way), or as you would hear someone else in the room talking to you, if that makes sense?

For me it's like I hear someone else in the room talking. Like it's coming in from the outside of my ear. The same way I'd hear music or have a conversation with someone else.

Same here but I only heard voices when I was on medication. When I stopped taking meds my voices stopped and so did the visual hallucinations, sucidal feelings, mental agitation and everything else that these toxic meds that cure nothing cause.

I hear mine inside my head like thoughts, but like on a different channel, as you said. For me it has always been as if I am in communication with spirits of some sort.

Quote:

...."people in western societies who regularly carry on animated conversations with dead relatives or other supernatural beings are generally considered mentally ill. The same behavior is likely to be considered healthy and even enviable in a culture that has an indigenous world-view. Such a person would be thought fortunate for having direct communication with the supernatural world. Traditionally among many Native American societies, dreams and the visionary world were, in a sense, more real and certainly more important than the ordinary world of humans."

You're right guest thanks for the link. I've always known that in another age and/or society I would be considered a shaman and a pillar of the community. Instead I'm relegated to my room with birds as my best friends. Which isn't too bad I guess. Lol.

It is societies loss in my opinion. It is really sad and unfortunate.

Calling those who may be in touch with the spirit world "ill", is probably the biggest blunder in human history.

I think if there is a God, those who decided to call us sick and who propagated the idea that we are dangerous will be punished in special ways.
