Hearing a voice

Postby Howlin Mad » Sun Sep 25, 2011 5:40 pm

I'm curious, because since telling people I that I hear a voice, they have said I should get help. I think, why? She's friendly, if annoying at times, but no more so than any of my other friends. And a few people followed up with stuff like "even though she's friendly now, she could turn aggressive or I could start hearing another voice who is aggressive."

I've heard a nasty voice before, but I wondered if "nasty" and "aggressive" aren't the same thing. I guess because some one is aggressive if they can hurt you.
What is the difference?? What is meant by and aggressive hallucination??

Well an aggressive hallucination could be, for example, one that is mean, may call you names, may egg you on to do things that are violent to others, yourself, animals, any other living thing or destroying stuff, like a house, a car, maybe even something personal of another individual. Maybe a voice deceitful in nature.

That's what comes to mind for me.
And we don't know
Just where our bones will rest
To dust I guess

Medication will help if it gets worse. It might not get worse... but it can. The voices might turn mean on you, like Anxxiety says, and then you need to see a doctor. You might consider doing so now.

Mine used to be really, really mean. I've rewired my brain a lot and now they are friendly. But when I was having these awful voice episodes it was the worst thing that's ever happened to me. I can't imagine a worse experience than to be yelled at, and picked on, and mind-raped so brutally that you cry and cry.

That's when I thank God for the medication we have these days.

Thank you both. :D It's good to know what I'm looking out for, and until the point, if it ever reaches that, I don't really want to risk her going away.

well, whatever voices are yakking in one's head they're one's own self aspects manifesting out of the subconscious. we're talking ourselves. if one has mean and punishing voices yelling at them then some part of the self feels the need to be punished and derided.

imo, we need to own the imaginary friends or enemies we subconsciously create for ourselves and there shouldn't be anything too scary to explore in our own skulls. self honesty is key and it takes a lot of courage.

Having negative voices doesn't always mean it's your subconscious punishing you. That would describe a perfect system. A lot of the time they are literally physical defects in the brain... Genetic, drug induced, or stress created.

whatever the reasons for their presense your head they're still creations of your subconscious, fashioned from whatever experiential material you've got buried in there. you may not like them but they're your self aspects none the less.

Yeah i think theres a million "systems" or relational idea objects tied to conscious phenomenon. I also think theres a sub-subconscious and other kinds of things, untill they break down to their seperate brain regions and then into their specific neuron bundles. The subconscious could be a figment of the imagination of a rationalization of whats already there, i don't know how much of it isn't random but there seems to be patterns.

Anyways, you're bound to get more symptiomology if you already have a voice. SO its better to get on medication, or at least have medication ready for when you do decide to quit. Then you wont have to go to the mental hospital.

I had some episodic voices for a while, but then i got on ativan. The ativan didn't help that much, eventually I was outside in the backyard and was hearing stuff so I thought there was something back there. It was like being in a horror movie.

I see what you're saying ImaWacko. Good one.

But what is the subconscious anyway? It's like this abstract concept that we call the inside of our minds. I don't think we can control it at all... except to watch what we put in our minds in the first place.

Wherever negative voices come from... it's not our fault in any way. I'm convinced of that. Nobody deserves to be beaten down by their 'subconscious'. It's a system that should work for us... and it doesn't sometimes. Which leads me to believe that it is a malfunction in the brain.

if one has mean and punishing voices yelling at them then some part of the self feels the need to be punished and derided.

Like what I keep coming back to over and over: it's an imbalance of chemicals in our brain. In short, something ain't working right. It's not our fault and we shouldn't be punished for it.
