Coffee-schizophrenia bad mix?

Postby Lucitania » Thu Aug 11, 2005 7:03 pm

I had coffee this morning about 5 hours ago, and I was sitting reading a book and then starting freaking out.

I'm shaking and twitching, and I'm really angry for no reason, my mind is racing, my heart is racing, I'm tired but my mind is going a million miles a second. It feelings like my eyes are bugging out too...If I close my eyes I'm seeing pictures flashing everywhere.

I didn't take an meds with this coffee or anything...I'm sure it will pass sooner or later..
Do any of you have a problem with coffee/caffiene? I think this is a big no no for me...

Hi,

I take up to 8 coffes per day and I have schizophrenia and i don't usually experience this symptoms but sometimes I have hallucinations after taking too much coffee.

I wouldn't worry very much about the coffee, I've seen severe schizophrenic people taking a lot of coffee and it doesn't affect them.

Regards,
Luis

My psychiatrist says that I shouldn't take more than 2 cups of coffee every day. He says if i take more than that I will freak out.

this post really caught my eye. Coffee seems to be what triggered my last relapse. Everytime i drink it, i feel much like you described : shaky, scared, irritated. My mind races, my heart pounds. And it really triggers my hallucinations. Voices and visions and paranoia and all.

Also, if i drink coffee, it will keep me awake for the next 24 hours. :?

You're right, coffee is a bad substance. I don't drink it.

What medication are you taking? It sounds like a side effect of your meds. Tell me what med it is and I will research it and find you some answers. When I was on meds, I used to have attacks like as you described. They stopped when I carefully stopped taking the Meds.

You poor thing, take care.

I'm not on any meds at the moment, I was prescribed antipsychotics a few months ago but overdosed on them, so I have no pills now.
Yeah, I think the coffee may have kept me up all night, I had about 3 hours sleep. I hate that, all night its like 20 different people are talking to me/yelling at me at once about different things. It was awful.
NO MORE coffee for me today.
