Herpes connected to schizophrenia!!!

Postby babybowrain » Tue Apr 26, 2011 12:58 am

Ok...this is embarassing...but its a huge step forward. Herpes may be connected to schizohprenia somehow, especially to the cognitive decline! http://www.disabled-world.com/health/dermatology/herpes/herpes-schizophrenia.php

Also some nutritional remedies for herpes: http://www.best-herpes-treatments.com/d ... erpes.html
Not cures...but things that are supposed to help. I'm going to be adding these to my diet because it seems harmless.

It shouldn't be embarrassing. About 50-80% of American adults have oral herpes, and about one in five adults in the United States has genital herpes. I think the figures are similar elsewhere. So it is super common. Many people have herpes but don't even realise it because they don't show symptoms.

I have HSV-1. I get cold sores when I am stressed. I hate them. But I am not embarrassed.

Maybe if there is a connection between herpes and schizophrenia, scientists will be able to use that knowledge to develop better mental health treatments.

And yes, I think Lysine can help with herpes a lot - you can get it as a tablet rather than having to eat lots of cheese/yoghurt etc. (Drugs like Valtrex can also help.) It's just a shame that yummy foods like coffee, nuts and chocolate are not good for preventing breakouts.

And if anybody reading this likes comics, there's an awesome comic book on Herpes called "Monsters".
No diagnosis, lots of opinions, and a bunch of issues that I haven't quite figured out.

So far some of the articles said basically that you need to keep taking the regular psyche meds, because they somehow help with herpes...interesting.

Ah sorry babybowrain. I should have actually read the article before going on a pro-herpes rant.

Hehe, so when I behave stupidly or have trouble multitasking, I can blame herpes.

Data from other studies has shown that antiviral medications can reduce psychiatric symptoms in some patients with schizophrenia.

It would be interesting to know how much the symptoms were reduced, and how long the period of study was for.
I wonder if there are any long-term side effects to taking antivirals like Valtrex.
No diagnosis, lots of opinions, and a bunch of issues that I haven't quite figured out.

I've had cold sores for 20 years. Last year my Dr suggested I buy Valtrex. It was almost a miracle pill, 3 days and everything was gone. But then 3 days later another ob... Took 4 other pills, same scenario; it would take the cold sore away right now, but would bring it back as fast. Since my little adventure with Valtrex, I HAVE to be on immune system booster pill or I have cold sore one after the other. If anyone had the same experience please say so, I'm really tired of these cold sores and having no solution.
