Am I hearing voices?

Postby sludgefactory » Fri Nov 03, 2017 2:43 am

I can hear conversations in the background of my brain when I'm focused on work, or laying down to go to sleep. It's always a man and a woman and I don't really focus on what they're saying but if I do they say things that make no sense. I think I had a moment where they were actually talking to me but I'm scared I was just imaging things :(

I also think I'm having small hallucinations where I think stuff is smoking or melting or otherwise moving when it isn't

I'm just not sure how to feel about this and my psych is out all of November :?

Is this normal? is this what hearings voices can start like?

I hear voices whenever it's quiet in my home office or in my room. I generally hear conversations when I put my head onto my pillow, or if there's a loud fan blowing. The important thing to ask yourself is where these voices are coming from. You identified right away that they're "just voices", and you identified them as being just in your head. Most Schizophrenics I've had contact with, and myself included, hear them as if they're in the same room with us. Is that the way it is with you?

Seeing things move could possibly be a hallucination. I've always done it. How much does it move? Does it look like a snowman inside of an oven? Or is it doing it slowly?

Depending on the severity of these two symptoms, it could possibly be an overactive imagination. I have co-workers that go through the same thing with the conversations. It's just their mind wandering off, trying to keep itself busy. They sometimes talk back, but they don't "listen" to them, so to say.

Another thing to ask yourself is if you have any sort of things that could be seen as a delusion. Do you hear secret, hidden, only for you messages in music? Do you think you have super powers? Do you think someone. or everyone is out to get you?

Another thing to ask, do you have anything else that you see that's not real?

well, I hear them very loud sometimes. it starts quiet like other thoughts in my head and then it can get slowly get louder until it sounds like it's in right in my ear, in the room, in my whole brain, you know?

the other day i saw a raccoon with bright white eyes for a couple seconds walking by the hallway when i was in the bathroom... but it usually it's stuff like seeing figures out the corner of my eye, or thinking i see someone next to me and i turn and there isn't. i think that's common, but it happens to me multiple times a day and i'm not sure if that is haha. i also see smoke? as if something is burning nearby.

yeah, that's fair. i have too heard my name called by someone in the other room, and music, things like that. i'm very paranoid ppl around me are going to hurt me or do something bad. i think my psychiatrist secretly hates me as well as all my previous therapists. and that people generally are against me and hate me?

I too thought that hearing voices or conversations when I turned on the box fan, was another form of voices but it turns out that it is very common and very normal, its called 'Audio pareidolia' where you can hear convos or game shows in the fan noise.

There is also a common and normal form of 'musical ear syndrome' where no background noise is present, but rather, when everything is quiet before going to bed when you first lay your head down to sleep.
They describe it as your brain attempting to make patterns.
Interesting stuff.
